Don't get too cocky - most of those are folks fed up with SP4 and SB...:p

Surface Pro 3 because it represents an important shift in mobile art.

Previously, I needed laptops/desktops to handle big files.

    SP2 was too small. /discussion

Then along comes SP3, with a glorious 2x3 screen and indispensable kickstand.

It has been an absolute beast, taking on my most complex projects to date.

Plus I've been able to work long hours with no fatigue.

I'd have to really put the others through their paces

my vote is for surface pro 1:
    --------------------------------------
    still using since late 2013

    - only had to replace, 1 ac wall adapter, 1 power to brick cable

    -----------------------------
    i have the 128G - i5

    - use WACOM pens, and not ntrig
    - got it for a huge discount when it came out
    - have a dock also (used)
    - got the DJ remix blade (used for cheap)
    - have the bluetooth slim keyboard
    - have the power keyboard (cheap)

4-5 hours is plenty battery for me, and now with the power keyboard its more than enough (6-7 hours)

the surface pro 2 only has better battery life
the surface pro 3/4 don't offer anything better for me, because the docks need to be replaced,
the power keyboard may or may not work, the pens don't work - yes, the screens are bigger, but thats about it.

    ---------------------------

other than having some wifi connectivity issues when i first had it.

it has been ROCK SOLID, i have NEVER had video issues, heat issue, or battery issues.

this tablet is the most powerful computer, tablet that i have ever owned, i have one PC with 8G ram/nvidia card
that is more powerful.. but this has been my go to computer for the last few years. browsing, gaming, videos,
and video encoding along with heavy duty office, and programming have all worked flawlessly on this.

i have never bought a better technology related product than this.

microsoft hit a home run with this series.

until this breaks down, i have no need to replace it, and if i do, it will be with a used surface pro 2.

i have no use or need for the surface book, 3/4 or any future versions.

    later

A refurbished Surface Pro 2 is $380 with 4GB/128GB configuration. New Power keyboard Cover, $56. That's $436 total. An incredibly powerful device for that price.

There are still things that make me prefer the S3. Particularly, the aspect ratio, fanless design, etc. But -1's post made me look at the price of the Surface 2. It is really a bargain. The I5 in the SP2 is nearly 8 times faster in single core mode and twice as fast with all cores burning than the X7. http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4200U-vs-Intel-Atom-x7-x7-Z8700

If I was looking for an affordable small notebook for a student, this would be high on my list. Wacom EMR technology too.

Sometimes (always in this guy's case) we are blinded by new, shiny, sexy - the SP2 will go down as the REAL classic because it really defined the category. No doubt SP3 was superior in so many ways, but the SP2, even more so than the SP, kick started this whole category, and it is STILL a real road warrior.

1)The refinement of a Skylake Processor

2)& the huge time spent by Microsoft to develop SP4 while refining the best Surface Pro of the time-The SP3 which had some small yet disturbing issues like the excessive thermal throttling or autoshutdown ,

3)as well as the classic Surface Design ,

4)as well as the large enough screen for work,

makes SP4 the best surface to choose from till date.I will easily recommend the surface 3 for any less Pro user, who needs a daily portable companion hybrid PC for lightweight tasks.:)

Some people do need a Surface Book basically for larger screen and stuff like discrete graphics, etc but not everyone. Most people will be happy with SP4 over surface book.
Although Vaio Z flip is a better device design than the Surface Book so thats a great option for many of the prospective Surface Book Buyers.

The whole concept of surface is to have best of a tablet and best of a laptop/table top PC in one device but being a tablet/slate first device. The idea of the surface is to have the keyboard appear when needed and virtually disappear almost instantly,on the go ,when not needed.Thats a unique experience.Surface represents future of Mobile computing, designed for our busy future lifestyle where entertainment as well as interactive Productivity on the go becomes extremely important.

Productivity need not always means bussiness or a job.It can also means enjoyment through creativity on the go which Apple initially failed to understand it seems:(

For me, SP3/4 are clear winners over SP1/2 for their 3:2 aspect ratio, and SP4 wins over SP3 for its amazing thermal engineering.
