I highly recommend this article as it drives home that ARM is now the king in performance with operating system and software being the only roadblocks to its ascendancy in desktops and laptops.

Unfortunately, both of your observations point to the weakest link - ARM is "unleashed" when it is custom fit to the hardware and OS experience - witness the blazing speed of the iPad Pro, and the gummed up works called WOA. Unless Microsoft truly hones Windows on ARM to the hardware on the Surface 7, we're just going to see another failure out of the gate - rinse, wash, and repeat. This CANNOT be just a "faster" processor version of last year's ARM device failures (name even one that had acceptable performance). Microsoft has to demonstrate a speed demon device, even if only when running native ARM applications. In fact (AND I CAN"T BELIEVE I AM SAYING THIS) the Surface 7 should NOT support x86 emulation. If you must have x86 (as many of us do) leave that to the after show upgrade of the Surface Go.

Truly make the Surface 7 your iPad breakout moment....

Well, off to the Microsoft event - decided for first ime ever just to watch the live stream - no blog commenting, no Leo Laporte snark - just unvarnished Panos and Satya. I'm sure we'll all be meeting up back here in a couple of hours.

    It begins...

Btw, MS' choice of elevator music is surprisingly top-notch. Hype is building already. ;)

If they wanted to share excitement and control, and empower users and put people at the center, they wouldn't make it so difficult to select text or interact with interface elements --- especially if they want to enable creativity.

Never buying another thing from Microsoft until they restore the ability to naturally select text as was possible since Windows for Pen Computing.

And did my eyes just see...

    "Replaceable hard drive"?

    Did my ears just hear:

    "Repair and serviceability"?

Ok if this is the future of Surface, the hype just jumped again.
