I didn't want to post this on stoneseekers 3D sketching thread as this device is quite different-

What I don't get - and maybe someone could explain - is why it is plugged into a laptop in their video?

Seems in principle to be like a hot-glue gun on a small scale and that doesn't need a laptop plugged in to it.

Mind you-some great 3D drawings are being done with this pen.

    Very cool!

From the article: "the developers say the super compact design is smaller than any other pen on the market and it can even be powered by the electricity from a USB port".

Ah, so the laptop is just for a battery source.

I'd get one of these if that is the case because I could hopefully attach it to a dedicated rechargeable battery and save my laptop battery for other things.
I've since found another called 3Doodler and the pen looks like a fat gherkin and there's no way I want to draw with that.

Cool post and even cooler pen. Looks extremely difficult to use for those (like me) who have unsteady hands, but still looks very fun to use nonetheless!
