Tough price point to hit. If you can stretch things a bit, try the Huawei Matebook perhaps?:

or better still Samsung Galaxy Book 10.6 from Amazon Warehouse Deals:

Or, almost down to your price point, a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2:

(I think it uses Wacom EMR, but not sure)

Thanks for the suggestions. All of those seem to be quite a bit over my budget, unfortunately, unless I can find some really good deals. Some of them are also bigger than I would preferably like them to be. Are things like the Transformer Mini and Surface 3 really that bad? In terms of specs they don't sound bad.

I find atom Bay Trail and Cherry Trail adequate, as long as you stick with Clip Studio, medibang and other light weight app and do moderate size (dont go over 4k). Onenote works fine for note taking though I only use the app version. They are light weight, fanless, good battery, convenient to carry and I find the Tranformer Mini a great package for that purpose.

If you are too used to Core i performance with SSD and high amount of RAM, use power hungry application like Photoshop, Corel Painter, 3D works or Animation then you definitely wont be able to get used to Atom device. Good or bad is subjective based on what the user is used to use ;)

Don't pick the Thinkpad 2 though, it's Clover Trai Atom which is 2 gen old, and Atom is only starting to be good enough since Bay Trail. You will also have difficulty upgrade to Win 10 with Clover Trail ( I have heard it's impossible)

I actually don't find Cherry Trail that much better than Bay Trail, but it's just me.

These WOA devices don't look bad and decently speced for their market. Actually you get more storage and RAM for the same price compared with current smartphones, together with a much bigger screen and most likely included keyboard and pen o_O

Oh and it looks like we need a new category in the list for WOA devices ;)
