    Well....

    New box -
    CPU: 2.0
    Ram: 4.1
    Gra: 2.9
    GPU: 3.0
    HDD: 7.3
    56 running processes
    667Mb ram being used
43 seconds to boot to desktop (7 seconds from sliding the power button to the Dell logo!)

It has a Samsung SSD and Virtualization was enabled within the bios... Bit odd.

    Un-installed:
    -Adobe Reader
    -Bing bar
    -Cisco software
    -Cyberlink Power DVD
    -Java
    -Silverlight
    -Skype
    -Windows live essentials

21.7Gb free space (32Gb SSD, swap off, hibernation off, sys restore off)

    Thoughts:
This could possibly be the cleanest machine that I've ever used with regards to installed junk. It's a very nice machine, solid, with the rubber type backing adding that extra bit of re-assurance when holding with your hand.

I'm tempted to tweak this machine and leave as is instead of clean installing windows 7...

To turn the wireless radio off you have to open the Atheros client software, touch 'Action' and then select various options. Could we simply have a desktop icon that turns wireless on and then off? (Do you know that the Windows Photo viewer is great for viewing multiple jpeg pictures!)

After tweaking the machine, disabling services, updating the Intel drivers etc:
(Superfetch was set to manual.. Hmmm!)

    45 running processes
    613Mb ram being used
39 seconds to boot to desktop

    Mild summary:
    I like..
    - The stylus silo
    - The general build (especially the rubber ish rear)
    - The rear camera is protected by the slight slope
    - The easy to use Dell Webcam Central
    - The the rear webcam flash/light
    - The fan noise (As in there isn't any)
    - The performance (Which although it isn't an i5 it's still acceptable)
    - The rotate block & Ctrl+Alt+Del buttons
    - The small amount of bloat. (Should still be zero!)
    - Feels solid (Bit tappy tap tap though)

    I don't like..
    - The Atheros software as it's terrible. I just want to turn wirless on and off.
    - The 7 seconds thrown away waiting for the Dell logo to appear after sliding on
    - The performance (Which isn't an i5 so you get what you get which is an Atom)

If it were not for the n-trig stylus and build I'd actually suggest going for the MSI or Acer tablet due to performance concerns. It's not exactly slow so I suppose it's all down to what you want to do: Acer/MSI for tv surfing and media playback, Dell ST tab for media and note taking, Samsung/EP121(ish) for 'do it' all work, play and art. Overall I do like the Dell Latitude ST. I'll be using it over the following weeks I'll pop back ever so often to update.

Battery life: (Back in a few hours)
Lowest brightness, audio via headphones, non-stop full screen playback, cpu set to max 10% and all other power options set to max power saving. (Enable performance mode ticked within the intel gpu settings, 634x360 video)

Started at: 11:00am (Video stutters a little so increased max CPU to 20%... then to 50% as still stuttering, then finally 80%)
.... Finished around 16:00. Five hours of battery life

Looking forward to your thoughts. I'm slowly convincing myself to buy this or a Q550.

Hmmm. I think that I need to talk to my Dell rep. about that. :)

I just got done purchasing three of them for work. Hopefully the first week of December.

    :)

I could only get them to throw in a 32Gb basic model which is a shame but then again if it's easy to open I do have a spare 80Gb Intel msata sitting around.

    128Gb + the dock :) Jealous

    I'm already a lifer !!!

Having just got the Series 7 - will probably send it back due to build issues - I am eager to see what the quality of the Dell ST will be.
I am hoping it lives up to my past experience of Dell being pretty decent machines and good build.

I agree. We are a Dell shop (Desktops, Laptops, and Servers) and I have been more than happy with Dell's build quality in all areas. Also their customer support is TOP NOTCH!!!

Funny, my company was an exclusively Dell shop for 10 years. They stopped two years ago because of service issues. My bookeeper still uses my old Vostro 1500, which is 7 years old. I normally had a Latitude and the build quality was always first rate.

Same here or at least I had a mail stating that something would be delivered this Wednesday. I recently had a chance to own/use a Vostro 131 which was the celeron model (I fitted an SSD). It was nice, fast, but flexed a whole damn lot just below the keyboard and thus it went on its way into the business.

All desktops (ish) are Dell as are the servers.

Curious, when did you guys order? I ordered on 11/8 and haven't gotten anything yet. I do have the initial delivery date of 12/1 for the docks and 12/8 for the Latitude ST's.
Can't wait to read your thoughts when you get them in your hands.

I ordered last week along with a great big server. It 'could' be the server that arrives on the 23rd though....

    WooHoo...My ST just arrived.
First impression is that the build feels really good, the back is slightly rubberized and the weight isn't as bad as the Q550 I had for a while.
Overall first impression when taking it out of the box is one of quality.

I am going to charge it up and then see how the setup goes, if there is anything you want me to test let me know.
I will also take some shots showing size vs the Samsung Slate and also the iPad...any other comparisons let me know and I will do what I can.

General responsiveness, w/ the Q550 tweaks applied (e.g. turn down wait time on click for drag, aero off, try setting GPU acceleration higher .. )

Overall impressions would be nice ... Im still trying to decide between Samsung Slate 7 and Dell Latitude ST and both have only just now started to show up here in UK. Will mainly be using for content consumption initally (i.e, readng books/magazines, web browsing) and some (work-related) windows apps.

    sleepy :D

Just got my "Dell Order Has Been Delayed..." email. The docks are delayed 6 days to 12/7. The Latitude ST's are still scheduled for 12/8 delivery.

Corteen, where are you? Share your joy with us... :)
