Every little bit helps when you're talking about a small smartphone battery.

That's a tough decision - if I had one - because the ability to instantly take a note would be the device's greatest attraction.

Don't think that is a problem, it has a silo (believe we have a member who is a huge fan of silos) and the instant you start pulling out the stylus the digitizer turns on.

I know it turns the screen on, but it also enables the digitizer?

I saw @Azzart beat me to it. But yes, that feature has been there since the Note 3. You need to turn the digitizer on at all times if you want to use external stylus. Not that I measured it thoroughly or anything but I think I got 15 minutes more battery time by turning it off.

Enough of this murmuring and speculation! I did a power consumption test...

(Corrections: I kept saying "Watts" instead of "Amps". D'oh! And I also said "One tenth" instead of "One hundredth". And wow, check out that fluffy hair! Not sure if I should get it cut or trademarked.)

    TRADEMARK!

PS - while you were drawing it jumped to 0.37-0.38 Amp (at 6:18 - very brief but it did jump).

I've run this sort of test before, (to check out what kind of energy cost screen brightness has. -Which is a lot less than you'd think; the difference between low and full brightness only makes about a 20 minute difference to overall battery life, IIRC. I was pretty surprised by that.)

The act of drawing or doing anything, even just typing, wakes the CPU from a low level state and the power draw jumps about .10 - .15 amps on average. It doesn't matter if the digitizer array is turned on or not. The CPU is the maybe the most energy expensive part of any given machine. (The screen is expensive too, though not necessarily the back light portion.)
