its still under warranty but hp is trying to charge me to fix the case, because it has a crack in it.

If its a minor crack...You can opt to net get the case repaired...

BTW: is this $450 for the case only???  That's too expensive

they claim that the crack damage the mobo(the crack is a minor crack on the bottom left of the case by the power switch) i guess that voided my warranty do you think i could get it repaired for free. i dont want them to repair the case, only replace the mobo.

What are the symptoms of dead motherboard..

Are lights coming up.. is the slide switch working...

PS: In my opinion the crack should not violate the warranty...

i push the power button, all the lights turn on for 1 second and then they turn off, the screen stays black. i contacted hp about this once it started and after spending some time on the phone with a tech, they told me it was under warranty and to send it in. a few days later a repair tech called me and told me it would be $450 to repair the computer. i told him it was under warranty, he told me that the crack messed up my mobo and it was not covered by the warranty. if i had my tablet i would post a pic of the crack, but hp still has it.

Well.. you should fight back.. the symptom that you mentioned is typical of the mobo problem...

Ask the HP rep for the breakup of charges..

My suggestion you write to the CEO of HP.. use following form:
    http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/execteam/email/hurd/index.html

    Also send email to following:

    Pete Bocian
Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer

    Don Grantham
Senior Vice President and Chief Sales Officer
