Thanks for the clarification - thought it wasn't a US release yet...

Oh good to know it's at least already listed. https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Spectre-15-ch004na-Convertible-Laptop/dp/B079T3KJG8

Looking forward for some feedback :) Especially about the thermals, performance, throttling etc.
Oh and if you are willing to open it up give us some insight to the internals :D

    :D:D

Opening it up is indeed a distinct possibility, but not planning on meddling with stuff that is "hidden" by glued covers. I will do that in the future (i.e. after the warranty expires) to get to the RAM which, i expect (informed though according to Lisa's review of the older model) the memory NOT to be soldered.

Anyway, yeah... I'm getting nervous about the thermals actually. After my i7 SP2 dud, i'd really REALLY like to NOT find myself needing some DYI solution to that.

Nevermind, checked the service pages and an Maintenance and Service Guide is already online: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05918213

According to the manual the SSD, RAM and Wifi module are all socketed and should be easy to replace (as well as the battery) :) Good job HP

Edit: The SD card reader also seems to be full depth

Kind of like the Acer Switch 7 already - neither HP nor Dell have released the new dynamic Intel/AMD duo...

I am hoping that the iamd combo helps free up some internal room for them add some more heatsink area to help with cooling

@stormi thank you for the service manual!

Good read. A few interesting stuff (just skimming it)

    1. The 8705G model(s) should come with Win10 Pro installed (or a non-Windows OS), while the 8550U model should come with Win10 Home (or a non-Windows OS).

    2. There are different thermal solutions for 8705G and 8550U. Both heat sink and fans are listed as separate parts, one for 8705G and the other for 8550U. This is a good sign :)

    3. SSD, RAM, WiFi module, fingerprint reader etc - all modular (not soldered) and, going by the manual, quite easily accesible. From a maintenance/upgrade/service pov i'd say this Spectre model should get top marks.

    Nah you can't compare that.
Acer said Dec. 2017 - now it's march 2018 and still not realy available.

HP said later this quater which still has a few weeks left ;)
