But, isn't it a bit weird if a Dell dock works better than HP's own?

That's interesting - which Dell one are you using?

Very weird unless the HP docks are so "non-standard" as to be like the Surface Dock as a near proprietary device.

@QuiggyB ,I think you said you are using the Dell D6000 dock? Which display(s) are you using with the dock and are they connected via display port or HDMI? Reason I ask is that we had one of those docks awhile back and it failed our certification due to issues with display port and Samsung 4k displays. It's been awhile and I'm hoping firmware updates might have fixed them.

I have a folio coming and need a dock and @dstrauss experience with HP made me cancel my order for the g2 dock

    Isn't the D6000 merely a USB-C dock, not a Thunderbolt dock?

Yes it is ! My bad. Should have looked closer before I posted.
The dock I was thinking of/referring to is the TB16 which comes with a 240 watt power supply. It's meant for their latitude line and not consumer. And that doesn't bode well for broader compatibility based on my experience.

It's also even more expensive than the HP

Surprise, surprise, we've got one of those up here too - hooking it up now.

Wow that's great! Let me know what you see. Also make sure you check for firmware updates as when we tested it I'm sure there was at least one we applied.

And BTW: My folio is out for delivery. And apparently it is the burgundy version. My config was I7 16GB 512GB. I didn't get LTE since this is going to be a home/personal machine. I guess when I ordered I didn't specify a color and my config is what they term a "quick ship" configuration

    FAIL!

The Dell TB16 video performance was even WORSE than the either of the HP models; and I couldn't update the TB16 firmware because it was not connected to a Dell product when I ran the update executable. Pressing on with the return...

Plug GB12 Lite back into setup and everything running smoothly, even with only 4gb RAM...

PS - Post pictures of burgundy in real life...

Dang it! Starting to look like the folio itself is the is culprit. And I will post a pic when I finally get to open it. If my wife doesn't beat me to it.

If you're smart, you'll just hand it over with a big Valentine card.
