I can confirm the Staples i3 version DOES
    have the Wacom pen/digitizer.

    I got the 1980 hi-resolution screen.
It comes with the Auto-brightness turned on and was dull looking.
Once I turned it off, the screen was very good and bright.

BUT, "Holy Bezels Batman" (as the kids say)

Looks like they could fit a 13" or 13.5" screen in there.
It seems really long compared to the Surface 3.
But is only an inch longer, it seems like more.

    O/A:
    8 1/8" x 12 1/2"

    Lit screen area:
    6 1/4" x 11"

The Surface screen area is 1/2" wider, but 1" shorter.

    There is no keyboard/base.
You have to order it separately from HP.

So far my i3 version seems as fast as my Surface
for loading and setting up programs.

I'll check back in once I have our programs all loaded and setup.
We do not run anything real processor intensive, so may not be
a good example for how fast it is. I ll just compare to Surface 3.

As far as plasticy, yeah it is plastic, but it does feel pretty solid.
The thickness is wedged shaped, wider at the bottom and narrower at the top.
It is definitely built for utilitarian rather than the cool, sleek look of the
    Surface 3

The very best thing though is the Wacom digitizer !
If only the Surface 3 had Wacom.....

Here is a quick update to my first post about the x2 612:

The speakers are weaker than the Surface 3.

The Wacom pen is MUCH better than the NTrig.

I bought the tablet portion from Staples on a special.
They do not have the keyboard base though.
Amazon has the complete units from about $1,000.
I am just using an old Fujitsu bluetooth keyboard
for now. until the HP keyboard power bases become available.

One thing I found very useful is lblb's Toolbar Creator
and I am able to use the tablet portion for most quick tasks,
in his/her program you can program the keyboard shortcuts you use the most.

The screen is narrow and tall.
My Suface 3 feels more premium,
the HP seems more utilitarian but solid.
(and plasticy, as indicated by Daniel H. above

It would be nice to be able to order the keyboard base section
for a complete computer. Anyone from HP on here?

Sorry, I do not have a Belkin dock nor a USB monitor,
    I am not much help.

The tablet does have 1 USB, 1 microSD, and something w/ an arrow.
No HDMI that I have found.

The keyboard base is supposed to have 2 more USB, an ethernet connection, and
    I believe a HDMI(?)

When I get time today, Ill snap a couple of photos with it for you.
    Have not tried the mircophone.

    Photo samples.

I just ordered the lowest end configuration from Staples and should begin testing next week with a review to follow as soon as I can get it done. I'm really enjoying sketching with the lower-end Lenovo Thinkpad Helix 2 and I am interested to see the difference in build quality between it and the HP.

Just received i3 HP Pro X2 612 G1 (I'll never get over that ridiculous name) that ordered from Staples. No pen in the box, but it works with my Wacom Bamboo Feel Stylus Carbon. It's a nice sized screen. Quiet, but not silent. Curved, rubberized back makes it easy to hold. Much thicker than I'd imagined. Lots of Windows updates to install. What else is new?

Yes, it is thick and wedge shaped, but it terminates into a razor thin, knife like thin edge--
    great for grating cheese :)
The stylus is in the very left bottom(the thick part w the ports etc) ,
while holding it in landscape. If you did not
know it was there or not looking for it, you wouldnt see it.

Wow. I've been using it on and off for a couple of weeks and hadn't noticed the stylus. Thanks!

And I totally agree about the razor's edge. Makes the tablet really uncomfortable to hold for long periods.

The HP Pro 612 G1 is one of the best 2-in-1 convertibles HP has delivered for a long, long time. Who cares about an Elitepad with too many jackets, if you can have a fingerprint sensor, smartcard reader and LTE in one box!

The travel keyboard will never lett you miss the surface 3, the power keyboard gives you the best keyboard experience like an ultrabook and dockingstation all the ports at your desk.

Btw, the Wacom digitizer works like a charm.
