Couldn't agree with you more. Had an Asus Vivotab 810C with the earlier generation of atom, what's the one before Baytrail and it was far enough for all my computing needs. However, this with its latest generation of atom processor is a huge disappointment

Mine was that way too. Then I decided to reset it via the recovery and it is tremendously better.

Let me try the recovery. Just to be really clear about this, I'm going to create a Recovery Drive using the Control Panel, onto an SD card. Then I'm looking in Settings>Update&Security>Recovery and see Reset this PC and Advanced startup. Which one of those is the Recovery that I want?

    Thanks.

I used Reset this PC. I don't believe you need to create a Recovery Drive for this procedure unless you want it for some other purpose. When use Reset this PC it uses the Recovery Partition on the hard drive.

Using Reset this PC and the internal Recovery Partition preserves the apps and configuration I have on the tablet?

No. It is like doing a factory reset.

With Intel's Atom announcement, and MS's apparent disinterest in 8" devices, I decide to give the HP a try. I only need a companion device for note taking, and perhaps leisure web browsing. I love my Surface Book, but it is definitely LAPTOP FIRST (almost only) because the Clipboard barely makes it through a two hour meeting at 50% brightness, and is a pain to detach or carry the whole thing into a meeting for note taking.

I'm beginning to feel that I am on Don Quixote's quest...

I look forward to your comments about it, @dstrauss, both informative and entertaining. :)

It's called "musings from the lunatic fringe." My real hope is to get used to the 8" form factor for note taking so I can migrate to the Surface Mini when Panos deigns to release it to us...
