I will do this guide in parts. Adapted from Setup Information from Notebooks.com, Seven Forums, and Winsupersite.

It Should also be noted that the install twice hack that worked in Windows Vista also works.

Turn your Digital River Windows 7 upgrade into a bootable DVD:

    1. Download oscdimg (attached file above)and extract it to C:Windows\System32
    2. Open an elevated command prompt by typing cmd.exe in your Vista Search box. When it shows up right click and select run as administrator.
    3. Paste the following into the command prompt, be sure to put your username in:
    Oscdimg.exe –u2 –bC:\Users\your_username\Desktop\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com –h C:\Users\your_username\Desktop\expandedSetup C:\7.iso
    4. Press enter and wait for your ISO to be made.
    5. Burn to a DVD with a burning program and you are ready to go.[/QUOTE]

    From Notebooks.com

Boot to iso and install as normal

Is this possible to do in XP as well, rather than Vista?

Yes b/c you boot from the installation disk you're not starting the installation inside vista (or any OS)

What about this - does it work in XP too?:

The notebooks.com posts say it may not work...

then i'd suggest using vlite (version 1.1.6 or higher) to create an iso w/ the files extracted from the upgrade.

I guess I could use my M750 which is lying around with the original Vista install in it...

vlite 1.1.6 is supposed to be able to run in XP, and essentially all you'd be doing is clicking through to the option to burn an iso.
