Is there a way to create a recovery disk with the Helix? I can see 17 gigs of my HD is partitioned to either unused or recovery, and I'd like to reclaim that space.

Yes. A simple search would have produced the following:
Methodology to create Recovery Media and reload a Lenovo Think system with Microsoft Windows 8 preload

I replaced win8 with win7 which required the removal of the GPT file system for NTFS. I then attempted to reload the usb recovery that I had made but it failed. I believe you may need to manually reformat the disk as GPT if GPT has been removed.

Also, I called Lenovo and they mailed recovery disc's to me for free.

That was really helpful, Thanks. I looked for Helix specific info and couldn't find. Often times creating the recovery disk changes between various models of computers. I never thought to check the control panel for the "recovery" option, I was looking for actual programs to do it. Thanks for the help.

You can also call Lenovo and they'll send your the OS and applications/drivers recovery discs. They did not charge me anything.
