Tablet: Dell Venue Pro 11 i3 model

I've been watching a lot of Netflix lately so have constantly had my headphones in and out of the tablet. When I got in from work I sat down to watch something but when the show started a screeching, distorted version of the sound was played though the headphones.

When I re-plug the headphones in there is no noise every second time.

The issue persists in all programmes such as Spotify as well as the Windows audio mixer. The noise is perfectly fine when the headphones are not plugged in.

I have tried my headphones on my phone and they appear to be working fine still.

Does any body know what is causing this issue or how to fix it?

(I will update once I have been able to find another pair of headphones to test with the tablet)

I've noticed an audible hiss whenever any application is using the sound card. It's annoying, but not enough for me to bother trying to return since I don't know if a new unit will be any better.

It's doesn't sound like what you are describing since the sound isn't distorted. This is more like poor signal to noise ratio.
