Shoot. I don't even own a set of torx. Just to swap a hard drive? Crazy.

    HP is not user-servicable friendly.

Torx is the just the start of it. They hid a case screw below the DVD drive so unless you opened it you never saw it. Wasted 15 minutes of my life trying to pry that case open because I didnt know about that last hidden screw.

I don't think it's limited to HP. The last time I was at Best Buy, I saw a lot of torx screws on the bottom of laptops (including the Lenovo Yoga 15), which puzzled me. I hadn't seen torx screws since the days before cell phones were smart phones.

Honestly, though, better to have torx screws than to be simply glued down.

It's a good thing you retained enough adult patience to not just get frustrated and use your manly strength to make things right. I've done my fair share of destructive 'repair' work over the years!

I knew I was going to return it to Best Buy so I was being extra careful, otherwise I was seconds away from going HULK SMASH!!!

Wow, a 17 inch Wacom screen?
i'm behind the curve on this thread - what is the model designation? I googled Envy with MPP panel and only this thread pops up.

Are there any other machines in 17.3 size with the same touchscreen and digitiser?

To be clear this is MPP, not Wacom AES. Using dual protocol Wacom Bamboo Ink shouls not cloud that fact.

Im not 100% sure but Wacom might offer similar 17.3" AES panel on Lenovo P70/71 still.

But this HP Envy 17T uses MPP.

Hey, did you end up returning it or did you decide to keep it after all?

You are a rare genius Shogg, You know what I'd like to do though?
Get ANOTHER screen, like the replacement in the teardown, and remove that pesky keyboard, and replace it with that second screen.:)
I wonder if these replacement screens are too expensive , I could just get those and build a custom convertible with two screen that fold together.
Imagine the satisfying feeling as those two panels close together. oh by the great lord crepitus...
I would settle for two 15.5 s but they'd both have to be pen and touch.
I'm no tech guru, I would need guidance, or a supertech to make sure the components go together.
I've searched for mod builders and companies , but never found anyone with the balls to even consider such a task.
In my mind it's perfectly reasonable, even if I had to use a sneaky display port to get the job done.
    It must be possible.
Does anyone know of any legit mod masters I could talk to about creating such a demented device?
