I really wish they had offered the 64-bit as well. I'm curious as to why you'd want 64-bit Vista or XP though, skipping over 32-bit Vista.

Anyway, here are two good freeware partitioning apps that work with anything.

    Gparted and Ranish Partition Manager

After a couple of weeks of following different threads for various tabletPC manufacturers, I'll soon place an order and will be the proud owner of a new C-140X...just waiting to place the order after the cut-off date of my credit card this weekend!;)

My experience so far with Gateway's sales/customer service has been great so far. I've been emailing a sales rep the last few days, and not only has he been really patient and helpful, but also has offered me great deals. He told me that on pricier systems (loaded with additional extras) they have a little more room for discounts and has taken off another $100+ on top of the instant savings the website usually offers. Again, depends on what you configure and whatever goodies your budget allows you.

    Here's how to reach him:
    Harper Uhl - harper.uhl@gateway.com
    (800) 846-2042 x23532 - M-F 1:00 - 10:00 CST

Really cool guy, mention you got this info from me off these forums, so he knows what it's about and treats you well...you'll thank me later!

I'll post my final specs and EAD next week, once the order is placed.
Probably will end up like most of you, checking the status of my system daily. LOL

    Regards,
    Jorge

    cosmic,
Great configuration. I myself am going for Vista Home Premium, although still problematic for a few I think the SP1 will be out shortly and if going for XP, would mean in a year or so to pay for the Vista upgrade. Besides, my business school says it's safe to use on campus this fall.

How much did you pay for it?
I guess $2,500-ish with shipping and taxes, right?

Don't forget to ask your sales rep for the free Experience Pack and Education Pack for Win Tablet XP, should be an option before checkout under 'additional software'...it does show on the Small Business systems.

    Enjoy your tablet!

Jorge, we've heard estimates that the SP1 should be out in later July/early August, which would be great. I am thinking they think its a perfect time to allure students (like myself).

Also I wanted to point something out... I was comparing the specs for the C-120X and the C-140X

    14.0" WXGA TFT Active Matrix (1280 x 768 max. resolution) w/ Gateway® Executive Stylus (by WACOM™)
    vs.
12.1" WXGA TFT Active Matrix (1280 x 800 max. resolution) with touchscreen and bi-directional hinge (+/- 180 degree) tablet functionality and Gateway Executive Stylus pen with eraser and 5 replacement tips (WACOM™)

So from this, if it is accurate, we can assume the following for the C-140X: No touchscreen, no bi-directional hinge tablet functionality and no replacement tips.

Or we can assume they just left that stuff out, whether be by accident or oversight. All of those things are possible nos, except we know that the computer has tablet functionality, and it doesn't really even mention that for the C-140X, except that you get a stylus. Heck they could throw a stylus with anything ;).

But yes, you could say my argument is completely completely pointless and that all of that could be easily left out and leave us with a plain Wacom stylus.

    Either way it's interesting.

Great news, perfect timing for us students!
Vista is the way to go, have heard good reviews of the improved inking abilities and handwriting recognition over Tablet XP. Just wonder now when the rumored price drop on the Santa Rosa chips will come this summer, apparently 32% off the T7700 and 24% off the T7500. :D

Either way my intention was to get a laptop, and the tablet functionality on the C-140X is a welcome bonus specially with Wacom technology for note-taking, don't mind no touchscreen or no bi-directional hinge (unconfirmed!) and still get to buy it at a reasonable $1,000 - 1,500 nicely loaded. A replacement stylus costs $30, so no big deal about the replacement tips. My 2 cents.

    Thanks for your comments. ;)

Jorge, I agree. I don't care if it is bi-directional or touchscreen or whatever. It is a reasonably priced computer with a super special extra - its a tablet too!

I've also been dealing with Harper Uhl and he has been fantastic to work with. I first ordered a C120 and then canceled for the C140. He was great about it and continues to help me with various questions even after I've ordered.

I told you all, Harper is the man! lol :D

If anyone's going to order a C-140X, you bet he'll get you the best offer. My personal opinion from experience.

He/She/They said it was ETA for the 17th but that FedEX showed it arriving today... they also made it sound like they would be taking some photos and such.

But maybe it just hasn't arrived yet. Stuff never gets to my house until like, 4 or 5 pm.

Really? Well that is good. Yeah, same here, they sometimes arrive as late as 6 here for me. So we'll have to see about things either tonight or tomorrow.

I've notice all of these people who ordered the notebook at the beginning of the month. I ordered mine 7-13 and my estimated time of arrival is 7-24...before some of the earlier orderers. So...whats up?

Oh don't even get me started. Your EAD is two days earlier than mine and I ordered on June 28th.

I guess the first batch will all go out the same time frime.

Edit: All we need now is for that guy to post some pictures or answer questions. He supposedly got the C-140 QS today so we should find out soon about the hinge and dual digitizers.

I see the gateway support is up...kinda... with a few pictures to boot. http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2007/ViperSR/1014418R/1014418Rnv.shtml

Looks like it is not duel screen, based on "Unlike other touchscreens and PDAs, your convertible notebook's display responds only to your convertible notebook's pen. This convertible notebook will not respond to a PDA pen or the touch of a fingertip."

Any one else disapointed where the finger print reader is (on the keyboard)? Thought one of the big advantages of it was so you could access your computer more easily while in tablet form.
