When I saw the thread title I was hoping you had heard some news that I hadn't. How does this end up on the internet before I even know I have 1e9 coming my way? My family just increased by one this week, I guess I don't have to worry about the payments on the 529 plan anymore =P

They got the shorthand of my name wrong though. Meso has been more popular around here than Mesos (although I had a badass orc warrior named Mesos ... in the days I had time for such things).

Heck even if they took Swedish level taxes out of it I'd be a happy camper. I could live comfortably on 400 million =P

Awesome news, congrats on this and on your new mini-me!

Careful about sounding too carefree though - the Canada Revenue Agency hates that, and you're not that far outside their territory!

If you read the stories about lottery winners and such, a financial windfall of that size can ruin you life. Not to mention what it can do to that little Meso that you just brought into the world (BTW, my congrats to you and Ms. Meso). I think you might want to consider the consequences of such obscene wealth and think about donating it to a worthy cause. I have one in mind.

Nah, I think he should embrace a midlife crisis to the fullest, a Tesla and a Lamborghini, maybe a yacht.
The problems for lottery winners is that they don't always realize the tax consequences.

Capital gain in Sweden is taxed at 22% so you'd get to keep 780 and if you'd keep it in a capital investment firm you could spread it out over ten years.

I was thinking more along the lines of a Tesla powered supercomputing cluster, but I'm sure I could buy those things too. I wish $4e8 was enough for a space plane, cars and boats are boring =P
