But, at least with a OSX based Mac, it would more than likely be Intel based, which means we could install Windows and Linux.

Finder sub menu: View | Arrange by affords one 6 options:

    - Name
    - Date Modified
    - Date Created
    - Size
    - Kind
    - Label

How is by name not alphabetic?

That was my first thought as well. Try it and see what happens.

You might remember the file name, but if you don't know what the file extension was, you're basically still having to hunt through multiple lists. -Nicely alphabetized lists, granted, but after you check the fifth list and still haven't found your file, you'll start to see the sense in having one big list which ignores file type. Mac OS can't do that.

For instance, was "Train Drawing May 2011" a .jpg .png .gif .tif .csp .ptg .mdp .pdf or a .psd? (or something else entirely, like an InDesign document).

I found myself spending a lot of time hunting for things I would normally have found very quickly on my Windows box.

Finder | Preferences | Advanced | Show all filename extensions — pretty much the same place one finds that preference in Windows.

I'll believe it when I try it out in person.

Sorry. It's been half a year. I remember no matter what options were ticked, I had to do a lot of extra scrolling and searching in order to find things which I'd become used to finding at a glance on a Windows file system.

I was looking for examples on-line, and I think it was that folders sorted themselves in among an alphabetized list meaning you had to hunt to find those rather than see them all in one place.

As I think back, I recall giving folders complicated names with explanation points and hashtags and such in order to trick the OS into putting them in an order I could quickly assess because none of the native systems were helping.

In any case, I found it very easy to lose things with Finder.

Where did I read that before? No mention of the word "Wacom" in the article either. I told myself I wouldn't read any more Apple Pencil articles until someone who's actually regularly used a Wacom pen writes a review...
