If so, do they have to be same brand and type
    or just same type?

The R1F supports DDR2 PC2-5300. Dual Channel RAM is not supprted.

    Well I never......
I did not realise the R1F's chip did not support dual channel RAM.

Is there a link available? I'd like to know more on why it does not support such :)

I'm reminded of a similar question on how to check for Dual Channel functionality in this reply about 3 months ago. However, one will need to have two RAM sticks (or, in other words, both memory slots occupied) in their Asus R1F to confirm if it will run in Dual Channel or not.

I used Cpuz as recommended above and can confirm that it runs dual channel (I have 2 1Gb sticks)
