Update, fwiw: After trying gingerly to get a foothold for my library card to start cracking the case open for about 10 minutes, I got cold feet. Then I remembered that some people on this thread tried massaging their device and got the digitizer back that way. So, for about 5 minutes or so I gently massaged the edges of the device, where I guess-timate the cable might be based on watching Meso's videos. I powered up, and the pen has been working again. I don't know how long this will last.
I will change my vote in the poll.

Changed my vote to "fiddling with the original cable worked," but that's not 100% spot on in my case, as I didn't crack the case open to actually physically touch the cable. Thanks again all for your awesome input!

Just be prepared that the likelihood of losing the digitizer again is in the neighborhood of certain and absolute.

Twitter is to communications as haiku is to literature.

Yeah, it lasted about an hour.

That was faster than even I expected, sorry to hear it. There are excellent instructions in the OP.

It lasts for 1 minute to 3 weeks for me... And then a good rub is needed again...

I'd say it is easier to just replace the cable and be done with it. I haven't heard of a single person (that the fix worked for) who had a failure after a cable replacement. My pens have been working for over a year now since I replaced the cables.

I'm too lazy... I'd first have to figure out where to find the part numbers of those cables, and then I'd need to find a shop that actually sells them and preferable not abroad. And finally, we did open my husband's unit, and he tried to detach the cable, but it wouldn't budge... I'm too afraid it'll break and without any real replacement, I prefer to give it a rub once in a while :p

I can sympathize. Ordering the cables is easy. Search this thread for digikey and you can get the #s. I ordered mine for $11 or 12, shipped.
The scary part for me is cracking a tablet open and putting needle nosed pliers to the interior.
Well, my T100 came back from the shop yesterday, so I now relinquish control of the m80ta to its rightful owner, my wife, who is more sure handed than i. She can take care of it at her leisure.

I'm so not going to order with that digikey...

    product: € 4,52
    Shipping € 18,00

A shipping cost of 18 euro means they're not shipping from my country.
I probably can only pay with creditcard (can't find anything about payment methods, so I'll presume its CC only).

I'll keep on rubbing the device for that price for a long time...
