I pre-ordered 2 copies last night and was wondering if anyone has done the same. One copy I am going to be installing on my M700 and the other on my wife's laptop.

I'm not interested in upgrade copies, I'm waiting until I can buy a full copy. Even at that, if Ubuntu 9.10 turns out to be as good as its supposed to be, I may not buy it at all :p

I can understand waiting until Ubuntu is released, but why don't you want the upgrade vs the full?

The ability to do fresh installations. With the upgrade it requires you to have Vista installed. I suppose I theoretically update from the RC, but it is still a upgrade none the less.

I'll be buying the full retail box together with Office 14 when that gets released.

    For now, RC.

with only a few days left before the pre-order deadline, i am still thinking if i should take the plunge. i most likely will though since i will be jumping from XP tablet edition which is a bigger jump than from vista to win7. i dont mind doing a clean install for the upgrade since its from xp; in fact i very much prefer that

All previous versions of windows only required you to prove you had the previous version, not actually have it installed. Is windows 7 different in this regard?

No, it does not. It does the upgrade by verifying an inserted disk. Why don't you just call Microsoft before wasting your money?

No, it is not. And you are absolutely correct. If you have a disk of a previous OS (even XP), it will install the OS on any system. If you have previous versions of Windows, there is no need to buy the full package. Just buy the upgrade
