A few of my favorite brushes actually do not have the option to use stabilization; the bar to toggle it is just absent from the Tool Properties menu. I can only surmise it's because there are different classes of brushes that are assumed when they are created. Is there a specific thing I can change about the brush to "unlock" the option to have stabilization? I haven't been able to find it so far.

There is, actually! Click on the sub tool settings- that's the wrench icon at the bottom right corner of tool property. Under "correction" there should an option for stabilization. Click on the box next to it so that an eye is showing. Stabilization will now show up in tool property.

Sub tool detail has a lot of useful settings that don't show up by default. It's a great way to customize tools to your liking.
