Can the battery be stretched to 5+ hours with netbook-level use?

    Hi all.

I've been looking for a slate with good inking to go paperless at last. This one has impressed me the most, by far.

Although a netbook processor can technically fulfill both my light and heavy needs, I appreciate the power overhead, flexibility and speed an i5 ULV affords, as well as the size and quality of the EEE slate's Wacom-equipped screen for inking.

However, I would also like the battery to last for more than 5 hours in basic use for peace of mind during the work day.

My question is: how best to convert this to, essentially, a piece of A4 digital foolscap that can last for 5+ hours? (onenote open, Bluetooth on and wifi off) Does dropping the maximum processor state on battery pretty low do the trick?

    Many thanks!

I doubt it. It doesn't seem to get anymore than 4 hours. Even when idle.

Notebookcheck reports 4:11 idle battery time with WLAN off and lowest brightness. You may try turn of all USB powers and lower the clock speed though..

Also, I found a significant improvement after disabling the webcam.

    I think it is possible.

Depending on your usage scenario, you might want to consider an external battery. Perhaps your usage would permit you to have the battery plugged in for a couple of hours at /some point/ during your 5 hour usage?
No AC power required, the battery can power or recharge the device whilst you are moving between meetings for example.
    Or during a coffee break.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I might carry the power brick around with me, which looks small enough.

I did read a post somewhere that mentioned turning off the webcam entirely, which helped battery life.

Am wondering what is the maximum battery life any of you achieved while doing something on the slate.

ASUS indicated different model number has different battery life.. so it is hard to say without luck of draw for which model do you get. The newer model may have more power saving components.. does this means somewhere less performance ?
