Hello I currently have a windows 8.1 preinstalled laptop, satisfied with Windows 8.1 and have used it for a long time.

Is there a way I could be able to choose whether to boot from Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 and keep my same programs? Can I dual boot it with windows 10? what should I do?

Yes, Windows Boot Manager will automatically provide you with a choice at boot to select 8.1/10.

Unallocate space on your disk (preferably directly following C: drive) using Disk Management within windows, make a Windows 10 bootable USB drive by downloading the iso and using something like Linux Live USB Creator, booting to the USB, and installing W10 to that unallocated space.

doesn't doing the dual boot mess with your preinstalled recovery files/partition though?
Just something to keep in mind (and what's honestly kept me from doing the upgrade....*signs i'm getting old*)

Nope, it utilizes the same Windows Boot Manager and boot partition (ESP) and simply adds another entry that points to the newly created partition housing Windows 10. Your recovery partitions usually exist at the end of the drive in separate spaces altogether.

I had it running but ended up getting rid of it. Wasn't too happy with it on the Z10t, not in its current state.
