I used for 3 years a GTASP8 as a phone & tablet. The reason I switched to GN5 is it gets old not being pocketable. If only the GTASP8 is folded in half ala the Fold. Coupled that with my Garmin for notifications, Samsung can take my/company money now.

I guess that's where I'm landing as well. To me the ideal tablet size is somewhere in the 10 inch range. Otherwise you are in note 9 iPhone Xs max territory.

One exception and one caveat to that. An 8 inch tablet is great for ebooks and the caveat may be that this is as much a software issue as a hardware. In other words, the things that make a 10 inch tablet useful don't seem to translate to an 8 inch size. Even the iPad mini which is the best in that size still feels gimped to me.

I don't like the idea of a screen that wraps around the outside of the device - there has NEVER been a plastic (I use that generically) screen that didn't scratch when you looked at it.

As for overall screen real estate, these folding devices, because of the aspect ratio, are gargantuan compared to a single screen - nearly iPad Mini 7.9" size:

The diagonal size differences are nonintuitive for most people. For example, the Note8 is 6.3" and the Tab S2 8.0 is 8", just 1.7" difference and it might incorrectly seem to be a mere 27%. But...
    Screenshot_20190223-110301-01.jpeg ... actually it's an 82% difference.

The aspect ratio matters. The Mate 20X has considerably less surface area.

Of course, like I said, I get that the aspect ratio makes a difference. To me though, it's just not nearly enough for all the tradeoffs that you're currently getting with first generation technology.

    Like, for example:

But overall, unless it replaces another device, then it doesn't do much for me. This would give me a bad phone experience, and a mediocre tablet experience. Until it can replace a larger tablet and also do better at the phone stuff too, then there's no benefit for me.

...But it's still really cool that companies are trying this stuff.

That's why I wish they would focus on a mechanism to have two separate screens butt against one another without a bezel...that's the only way to get to a truly foldable screen.

It is just unfortunate the Fold is not penabled. I'll get it in a heartbeat if it is a Note version:

with S Pen. Maybe next Note event.

    Edit:

I sometime uses a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 as a big-screen phone on days when I know my Note 5's screen is too small for work productivity & tasks. Not pocketable at all hence why a Note version of the Fold is very appealing to me.
