I too seem to be having this USB charging issue. The Vivotab Note 8 is very finicky when I put a USB cable in to charge and needs to be wiggled to make a connection. Also, the battery never seems to charge to 100% anymore for some reason. This is very disconcerting. I'm not beyond ordering a new USB board and installing it myself but is there anyplace in the US I can order from?

You will have to change the board. Tic, tac, tic, tac... Countdown is started.

Has anyone discovered a place in North America that sells it or do I have to order it from the Europe? I found I could charge my tablet as long as I was very careful about the setup but I doubt that will last and it will eventually fail altogether. Would buying one of those charging mats work instead (those flat things you can put a cell phone on and it charges like magic)? It's a pity to think that this device has only lasted a year and a half...

Yes, I saw this too. I'm concerned that this tablet's problems might be more than the fix listed on the forum. Also, there's no guarantee that the same problem won't surface on any replacement tablet I buy. A year and a half of normal use is pretty disappointing and I'm considering finally investing in a Surface rather than go with the inexpensive tablet option. Grumble...grumble...grumble...

I like the fact that it is reversible and that there is a built in charge indicator. The break away feature may save many-a-M80TA's mUSB port. Mine bent when the tablet fell while charging. The magnetic connection would have just separated.

At about 2:00 min., you can see how easy is it to sold SMD tinier and complexer than our USB pins with flux pen:

The cost would be very low. Maybe it's even sturdier. Of course the board need to be OK. I would be curious at least.
