my review on the asus vivo note 8

    pro:
    -nice build quality
    -camera with autofocus
-you can put your stylus in the device
-from my perspective, it delivers a decent performance

    cons:
-the digitizer covers only the sceen--->its getting inaccurate when u come near the beezel
-when u hold the stylus, you cant figure out where the button is without looking at it, if you re-grab the pen u loose the button placement.

i think asus has done a good job so far
    ----------------------------------------

    next comes windows ;(

wasnt win 8 supposed to be tablet optimized (if i dont find the setting to change some things i would be happy to let me know)

    pro:

    -lots of software
-i can drag and drop files directly on my desktop/folders of my desktop pc, this maybe sounds like a gimmick, but makes many things easier and faster
-full flash support, no problems watching video steams(u cant do that with the crippled flash on android)
you need the hover mouse pointer for using flash, so the time bars appear on the videos etc

    cons:
    -first of all wtf microsoft
-there are 2 different control panels where you have different options, was that really necessary?
-the buttons are tiny, can u change those bigger, without making the content in the windows bigger?
-when you click on a text field, the onsceen keyboard doesnt show up, you have to tap on a symbol of the task bar to get it and
tap again to get rid of it, the most annoying point of my cons list
-you have those tablet/mobile phone apps, but no tablet browser, that means you cant properly use pinch to zoom
-pinch to zoom often fails, when used in programs, for example sketchbook, and when it fails u draw line etc
-it has a start button in desktop view, but when u push it, u end up in that tiles sceen(anger level rises if that happens)
    -not many tablet apps

my main usage for the device is drawing
i bought a samsung note 8, then a week later the vivotab note was suddenly released, so i returned it and got me the vivotab.
on the samsung i used sketchbook pro, it worked like a charm and i thought, i could use the pc version in the vivotab
i was wrong about that, they totally messed up the program(or it isnt optimized for tablets yet), there isnt even a pen only mode.
so far i have not found a really usable program.
my hopes are that thing will improve over the time.

the vivotab note could be the perfect device, but the details ruin the picture

For some you who were too young (or not born) to have seen it.

Re: Auto rotate not working and the rotation lock missing from the right swipe charm.

Ended up doing a complete reset and now it is working. Not sure what broke it.

They are slowly moving the more common stuff into the tablet-style / Metro PC Settings. I'm glad for all the Control Panel stuff myself, but most people don't need all of those things.

Not sure which buttons you're referring to but there are ways in the registry to adjust the sizes of some common things. Still, I have no idea why they made those harder to find (there used to be a control panel for it).

In Windows 8, the desktop side of things has an API for popping up the keyboard, but nobody cares enough to use it other than Microsoft (in Office). It used to automatically pop up in 7 though.

No idea what the heck you mean by no tablet browser, because there is one.

Overall though, it sounds like you're concentrating way too much on the desktop. Sure, you can have a great desktop experience on a tablet, but thinking of things in terms of wanting the experience to be exactly like Windows 7 (start menu and all) is kind of ridiculous on an 8" device. Even if you want to use desktop programs, I'd suggest thinking about pinning the important ones to the start screen, for example.

Picked up a 64GB model today. Looks like a lot of the bloat ware has been removed. Just curious to know if there is an app that will check for updates ie. bios, drivers etc...

But having the soft keyboard popping up automatically is why I prefer it over the Galaxy Note 8. If you have a keyboard connected, either USB or BT, it is very annoying having the keyboard pop up every time you want to enter text. I wish the OS knew when a keyboard was attached so it popped up only when needed.

How'd you pull off the $267? I bought my 32 gb online and they applied my 10% student discount. After taxes I was at like $323. Was it $300 in the store w/ taxes included and then you applied that discount?

We paid very different prices for the same thing and I WILL rectify this mistake =)
