I noticed that the price was $440. I guess if you want one that works, you have to pay more. Interesting marketing strategy.

Quality control costs money. Compared to the need for two devices when you run them through RMA it might even be a good deal.

Hi ! I know some of you from MR, and have bought an Asus Note 8 in May. Production date is 04/2014, so far so good, no pen problems. As a matter of fact, I like the device so much that I ordered another one on amazon.de, in white this time. It's supposed to arrive saturday, I'll keep you posted on my findings when it's finally in my hands. Stupidly, as I am on holidays and wanting to travel light, I decided to leave the black one back home so I may not be able to compare everything ...

don't think so, this is the one I originally bought back in Mar/Apr (I think my current one from MS is also a C1)

So is anyone able to explain the wildly varying prices for the latest C1 batch? First $250, and now retailers selling for $400+, while Amazon is out of stock.

Well I got lucky(ier) I guess. NCIX had it for a short while (like a day or two) for $329 with a free 64GB SD card, I picked up their last one in-store. I guess the extra $100 got me the card and local warranty with Asus Canada. They were actually really good and worked with me on the issue multiple times, and the RMA turnaround was phenomenal.
