I can confirm that the "Create recovery drive checkbox" is greyed out (disabled). I have also used my microSD card to restore my VN8 back to factory settings, it was one of the first things that I did with my device.

IVSO Case Giveaway: I've got two, one with the ugly surgery (but the magnets are gone so no interference) which also has a pen loop. The other is unaltered. PM with choice - first come first serve - will send just plain mail so may take a few days to get to you.

Thanks. Do you have any idea, how is it even possible that restore works if the Recovery image location is not known by the system? Because from what reagentc /info gave you, this seems to be the case.

Anyway, when I tried to set the image path to the recovery SD I failed everytime with error 3. Setting back to the original "built-in" recovery happens without any problems. Anyone else care to try? Thanks.

I wonder if it is something in the 700Mb recovery partition that allows this, I have a zip of my 700Mb partition, it is only 17mb in size, if that helps.

Sure. Maybe it´s good for a refresh just not for a complete wipe and recovery. Would be nice if someone with more insight to the soul of recovery partitions could take a look. :)

How many recovery partitions do you have on your 64GB version?

Two. The 700 (or 900)MB and the 8GB one. They are harddisk0\partition2 and partition5 respectively.

Is there any chance you can upload a zip of your 900Mb partition so that I can compare them to see if there is anything in there that points to the location of the recovery OS either on microSD or partition 5 in your case.

Attached are two logfiles from my recovery partition and it shows the creation of the recovery on the sdcard during what looks like production test. In other files they have EFI (900Mb) and mini EFI (700Mb) partitions.

Thank you for the reply. But could you confirm this pen will fit the note 8's pen slot? I personal feel this pen would be bigger than the original VTN8 pen..
