sweet dude. The mic on my girlfriend's HP dv9000 laptop sucks too, we can't even talk over yahoo. I hope there's a driver update for her computer too!

To Realtek, one size fits all for Vista computers. Realtek updates them constantly. A newer version was just published, R1.98, but that has flaws too. Use version R1.97, which works great.

R1.97 loads drivers v6.0.1.5653 dated 3Jul08. The latest version on the tx2000 Support & Drivers site is sp39787, 28Jun08 Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver R1.95 v6.0.1.5636A.

Does the update still color the mute button orange when sound is muted? Cause when I tried it the realtek drivers would leave it blue no matter what while the HP drivers would change colors correctly.

Install it and see. On mine the little speaker symbol in the notificaton bar gets a little circle with a slash through on its lower right side when I set it to mute; but the speaker symbol, itself, remains the same light color.

He's not talking about the 'notification bar'/system tray icon; he's talking about the actual mute button physically on the main body of the tablet: it's coloured blue if sound is active, and it'll go orange if sound is muted.

So sorry. Thanks for clarifying. With the most current Realtek version (R1.98) the button light doesn't turn orange anymore, except when rebooting. It also doesn't automatically switch from laptop to headset speakers and mic, which is a master pain.

With Realtek R1.97, everything worked properly to include the orange button light when mute.

As a recommendation, always download software updates then execute them so you have a copy for your archive in case you need to return to it.

    Just to clarify:
    1. did you uninstall the HP sound drivers before installing the realtek ones?
    2. does the mic pick up things a lot better, or still the same?
