Yes you should disconnect the battery as a short may damage the device while its got power.
If bios loses its settings it will go back to stock dell ones so will still boot and work as normal, the most you can lose is any custom settings which you will have to re apply.
mine kept my custom settings even without the battery connected for an hour.

Did you format the NTFS before use?
    Thanks

Formatted to any filesystem that works with windows is fine. FAT, FAT32 or NTFS will all work. NTFS is best as supports larger files, It can be formatted once in the system too.
Always best to test out the usb thumbdrive on a pc before you pull it apart and fit it, just in case you get a faulty one.

Thanks Woody, I did run CheckFlash test on it for 3 hours and it found 4 errors (all in one sector)
Now I'm not sure if I should use it or not :(

Bad idea. So you degraded your USB-Drive already.

Non sense, you'll be crazy to install it without extensive test.
Tested another drive using the same utility and it came with those same 4 bad sectors so it must be normal.

I presume it would also be wise to ensure you do not have a faulty tablet before embarking on these mods just in case you need to send it back for repair/replacement under warrantly.
