Computer Issue
This is copied from another post of mine, but I thought if I made this its own topic with a more relevant title I might get some help...
When I open MyPaint it stalls. When my pen hovers over the min/max/exit buttons they do not highlight like normal, nor do the file/etc buttons. If I click one, it takes a few seconds until it decides to function, and then there are streaks of pen on the drawing area, like I made a line from the drawing area to the buttons. So basically, serious lag? It works perfectly on my sister's model, which is exactly the same.
Any ideas on what this could be? To me (and I know nothing about computer hardware, this is just speculation) it sounds almost as if it's a lack of memory (it sounds like when people try to run PS on a small computer, it just can't handle it) but I just installed new RAM to take it from 2g to 4g, so I really don't think it's that, unless it's bad memory, but again, I put a stick from the same pack in my sister's and it's fine. Before I take it out to test if that's it I wanted to see if anyone else knew what was wrong.
I'm uninstalling MyPaint and reinstalling it now, but I've already done that once before so I don't think that will help.Last edited by Boots; 04-20-2012 at 06:31 PM.

Re: MyPaint Issue
Now I'm back to thinking it's not MyPaint but the computer itself.
MyPaint stalls if I get the pen near it. Tried my sister's pen and the same thing happens.
YouTube (not any other site, so far) stalls almost immediately once I a video starts, and I can't bring FireFox back up unless I restart the computer.
I took out the new memory, no change, put it back, no change. Took out the memory it came with, no change, put it back.
I'm at my wit's end here.

Re: MyPaint Issue
OK, then its likely a driver issue or a hardware issue (a hardware issue at this point isn't too likely, but its possible). For drivers do you have a recent Intel GPU driver (either the one direct from Intel, or the one on the driver page for the 2730p)? Do you have any restore points you can roll back to (type 'restore' in the windows search and start the 'System Restore' and see if there is one) otherwise there should be a 'recovery' option when booting the computer, it will wipe whatever is on the HDD's Win 7 section and install it again from the back-up image so back-up any data you want to keep before trying it... I don't think it would be a pen or even ram issue, so try a different GPU driver and if that doesn't work then try restoring the system.

Re: MyPaint Issue
Do you mean "Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver with Turbo Boost Technology"? I downloaded that and it didn't change anything (well, the icons looked a little blurry).
No restore points.
If I do recovery, I just want to make absolutely sure that it will still be Windows 7, and not revert to XP or whatever was on it when it was made. This seems like the best option. It will still be Windows 7, right?

Re: MyPaint Issue
No, I mean this one HP EliteBook 2730p Notebook PC- Intel Video Driver and Control Panel - HP Business Support Center The 'Intel HD w/ Turbo boost' one is supposed to be for the 2740p, I don't know how that's mixed in there for the 2730p.
Yea, it should recover Win 7 as it seems they put brand new Samsung hard drives (I'd prefer if it were the Toshiba drives but what are ya gonna do) in then installed a refurbisher Windows 7 image along with a recovery partition that is for that OS; just back-up your data, then reboot and choose to load the recovery and then follow its steps (I'd do it only when plugged in)Current: HP 2730p Win 7 & Linux Mint | Toshiba M4 | Motion M1400 renice 120GB SSD | ITRONIX IX-325 | Motion F5 (U7500 update) | Fujitsu P1620 | T4220 w/SXGA+ 160GB Intel X18-M & 1TB HDD in bay | broken TC4400 [for experimentation] | i5 3570K mITX desktop w/GTX460 | ASUS N10j

Re: MyPaint Issue
Okay, I did a restore. I've only downloaded a Wacom driver and I've disabled Windows Updates because it's evil. Then created a restore point.
Everything seems to be perfect so far. Sensitivity, everything running fine.
I'm going to start downloading my stuff, Firefox, Office, etc. I'm hopeful that nothing else will happen, haha.
Thanks so much for your help. Without you answering all my stupid questions I'd have a computer shoved through a wall or something, so I appreciate it!

Re: MyPaint Issue
Yea, no problem; I'm just glad it worked (I was assuming the problem was there was a remnant of that Wacom Mini Driver that was left in the registry and that was the problem)... But at the same time I'm setting up an exact same 2730p as I got one of those $299 ones w/ slice battery and dock for my little brother, and except for a broken USB port (going to get one of those double ported USB Expresscard adapters) it seems to be doing great. I did have to install the modded BIOS to get the the ability to overclock and undervolt and to change screen brightness (it seemed the older BIOS didn't let Win 7 use the hardware correctly to control screen brightness, all fixed now!)
I am curious though, since you have both on you, how do the screens look next to each other? If you go into Device Manager > Monitors > Generic PNP Monitor then the Details tab and then 'Hardware ids' from the drop down you will see the reported screen model. My 2730p has a BOE089B Hydis (the one ending in D is supposedly the Outdoor option), and my brother's is CMO1222; I find my monitor to be more blue cast (somewhat changeable via display controls) and it has way better contrast and viewing angles as well as being slightly more matte, while my brother's seems to be a tad brighter head on and seems to have slightly richer colors and not be subject to 'black-out' when looked at in portrait mode when wearing polarized sunglasses... Pen tracking seems the same on both the units though, in about .5" of the hinge side there is the sort of 'bump' in tracking and its not perfect on the other edgesCurrent: HP 2730p Win 7 & Linux Mint | Toshiba M4 | Motion M1400 renice 120GB SSD | ITRONIX IX-325 | Motion F5 (U7500 update) | Fujitsu P1620 | T4220 w/SXGA+ 160GB Intel X18-M & 1TB HDD in bay | broken TC4400 [for experimentation] | i5 3570K mITX desktop w/GTX460 | ASUS N10j

Re: MyPaint Issue
One new problem, of course;
When I downloaded the Wacom driver the sensitivity in MyPaint was working beautifully. The scrollbar didn't work on the touchpad though, so I downloaded a touchpad driver from HP. Now the scrollbar works, but not sensitivity in MyPaint. It's fine in other things, like the sticky notes, but not MP. So I downloaded the Wacom one again, and no change.
What should I do? How do I delete drivers, for one thing? They don't show up in Programs and Features to uninstall. I'd rather have sensitivity than scrolling.

Re: MyPaint Issue
We've both got SEC4641, which surprises me since I'd read that it would be pretty random. It's pretty bright, pretty good viewing angles, and we haven't used them outside much, but when she took hers out for a few minutes it was still pretty good. They've got sort of a sparkle...
And now magically the sensitivity works. I did nothing. This thing may drive me completely crazy.
