Sound should be ok as long as you use the latest alsa release and and set it to load the toshiba module. No idea how to do that in buntu land since I use a gui tool in opensusel.

The pen and touch interface won't set the proper serial port baud rate with the stock wacom driver. To fix that, head to this page: http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dg8nknth_3hs868qhh. The instuctions should be the same for ubuntu as for opensuse.

I have made some search in internet how to install Ubuntu in a Toshiba Portege M700.

After some work, I do have an Linux Ubuntu system in Portege M700 with full graphics working, pen perfectly installed (with rotation as well), network (wired and wireless) and functional DVD-RW driver.

Modem and sound need extra work.

I have not tried the other devices.

The abstract of my work is here

Note that the above howto won't work on an m700 with both active digitizer and touchscreen. To get that you have to patch the wacomdriver with the patch found on the linux wacom page.

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/f...x wacom-devel <- url where you can find the patched driver.

For sound you have to add the line:
options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba
at the end of file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
and install linux-backports-modules using synaptic package manager

Works like a charm
