Default News Bits: Toughbooks Embed Computrace Anti-Theft Technology, OneNote 2007 and MindManager Combine, SmartDraw Releases Tablet PC version of SmartDraw 2007

Toughbooks Embed Computrace Anti-Theft Technology

Panasonic and Absolute Software Corporation have extended Absolute's BIOS-based security to the Panasonic Toughbook notebook line. Panasonic has embedded BIOS support for Absolute's Computrace-enabled security solutions with the CF-19 and CF-30 rugged notebooks and the CF-T5 business-rugged Tablet alternative already. The ultraportable CF-W5, CF-Y5 business-rugged models and the CF-74 semi-rugged notebook, are scheduled to ship with Computrace embedded in them beginning early 2007.

Additional models will follow later in 2007 and Panasonic will also resell Absolute Computrace Computer Theft Recovery, Data Protection and Secure Asset Tracking software. If a missing computer protected by Computrace Complete is not recovered within 60 days, the customer may be eligible for a Recovery Guarantee payment of up to $1000. Certain terms and conditions apply, but this sounds like a good deal to me.

OneNote 2007 and MindManager Combine

This is a welcoming update since their last announcement of MindManager working with Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 back in December.

SmartDraw makes it possible for anyone to create professional quality business graphics such as flowcharts, org charts, Gantt charts, time-lines, floor plans and more in minutes. We will be testing this theory as soon as I get my version from SmartDraw's PR representative, so keep checking back for my review on SmartDraw 2007.

SmartDraw 2007 is the company's first Tablet PC-enabled version, allowing users to take notes and create high quality graphics on the go. "Other Tablet PC graphics programs require drawing by hand with the stylus. SmartDraw is the first program to offer true professional quality graphics, combined with a hand-drawn ink layer for quick notes and annotation," said Paul Stannard, SmartDraw.com chief executive and founder.
