Re: To everyone who own a Slate, please post you batchnumber/modelnummer and state of screen
Call MS Store to voice my displeasure and they assure me that it must be bad luck that I got two with bad screens. Haven't heard of this issue. Have sold thousands. Seriously.... I should print out the forum posts...
Seriously rethinking this purchase. Just use my HP Slate for the next few months until something better comes along. I really hate to because I love the Samsung...
Decisions....

Re: To everyone who own a Slate, please post you batchnumber/modelnummer and state of screen
Returned my CBC today (my third Slate). Opened it up in the store, it is a KBC and it has screen lift. All they had were CBC and KBC.
Interesting talking with the MS Guy, he told me that Samsung doesn't consider the screen lift issue a Mfg Defect. Wow, if that is a true statement. I took a look at their floor models and they all had minor lift issues.
I will run this for two weeks and complete my W8 testing and will return it to find something else.
Sad, I really liked it.Last edited by cmergel; 03-29-2012 at 02:37 PM.

Re: To everyone who own a Slate, please post you batchnumber/modelnummer and state of screen
A 7 slate arrived today and after having a REALLY long think it's now back on e-bay. Didn't have the heart to live with the screen lift (If it did have lift on this one).
Decided on a VERY cheap W500 again until the new devices arrive. (I also have an EP121 being repaired)http://www.auura.co.uk/

...Another data point:
I happen to be in south LA this week. I stopped in at the local Microsoft store (which was mobbed because they were giving away free phones for some kind of promotion). They had 4 S7Ss on display, and the screens on all of them were good.Last edited by Steve S; 03-29-2012 at 11:55 PM.

Re: To everyone who own a Slate, please post you batchnumber/modelnummer and state of screen
After ditching 2 s7s'es and sticking with the slate 2 for a while, I've already decided to off load the slate 2 (for the right price), and go back to the s7s. I can live with the screen lift if I happen to get another model like that.
The main reason however is just because the slate 2's gimped processor just has a list of things it can't do that is longer than the things it can.
I'll edit this post when I've gotten a new s7s.

Re: To everyone who own a Slate, please post you batchnumber/modelnummer and state of screen
TWO MONTH REPORT: all's good with this particular KBC model. Still no screen lift, and I've quit holding my breath. Guess I'm just one of the lucky ones...or, only the problem units are getting reported. I know the issue is reported in many sources, and my first S7S suffered major lift, but they have sold thousands of these units, so why isn't the earth shaking under Samsung?
Anyway, this little jewel, coupled with the OEM case and a little pen-loop stick on that was recommended in our forums, has become my 24/7 companion.* I've written elsewhere about my dream list for S7S version 2, but truth be told, I think this one will carry me through to Windows 8 SP1 quite nicely. Unlike many in the negative press, I don't hold its 4-5 hour battery life against it (in comparison to 10 hour iFad), because IT IS A REAL COMPUTER! After two months, there is nothing my HP 2740p could do that my S7S can't, with the added advantage that it is barely thicker than the screen alone on the 2740p. I had the HP tricked out with 8gb ram and 256gb SSD, and although I'd love to have the additional SSD space, my S7S is even more responsive than the HP. Kudos to Samsung for that.
Of course, a bluetooth keyboard is your best friend with this jewel when you have lots of text to handle; and a Windows 8 (x86) tablet in the Transformer Prime form factor would probably turn my head pretty quickly; but all in all the S7S has been one of the best computer purchases I've ever made (starting in 1986 with the Toshiba 1100+ laptop).
* PS - For those of you who are natural show-offs, be sure to take your S7S to the next meeting (of any kind) that you are attending and take longhand notes in OneNote (for extra effect, use the little Insert Space tool to add some space for adding more notes as you go). Your iFad toting friends will wet their pants (oops - can I say that here?) with envy. I use mine all the time, but at a meeting with some new participants yesterday, they came up to me after the meeting to ask how I was doing that on my iPad (or tablet for those with better eyesight). They were unbelievably shocked that you could do that on any tablet, AND even more so when I showed them how OneNote could search my handwritten notes!
I know, I wasn't playing fair - they just had no idea how limited their iFads really are.
