Same here, on the iPad 2. It's so nice to not have to plug the iPad into a PC and run iTunes to update. I don't know how we let Apple get away with that for so long!

I updated my third-generation iPad last night, and I haven't seen any issues. There hasn't been a lot of time for extensive testing, but I'm on the road at CTIA in New Orleans, and the iPad is my primary computer on this trip, so I've used it for quite few hours since I did the upgrade -- if there was something horrible I would have probably seen it by now.

I agree that over-the-air system software upgrades were long overdue. I updated my tablet in my hotel room last night over a Wi-Fi connection with no problems. I think it was a year at at CTIA that Apple introduced a small OS update which I couldn't install for most of a week because my PC was at the office.

If you're on the fence about installing this update or think "Meh, I'll get around to it eventually" you should check out this note from Apple pointing out the security vulnerabilities removed by iOS 5.1.1:

About the security content of iOS 5.1.1 Software Update

The odd thing iis, once a company publicly acknowledges a problem, that's when hackers of limited talent go in and figure out how to exploit it. So now that there's a fix out there, the danger from these exploits has just gone way up. This means that it's a good idea for everyone to install iOS 5.1.1 as soon as they can.
