Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Second Look Review: Still the Best Android Tablet? Discussion
We had very nice things to say about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Android tablet when we reviewed it earlier in the year. We called it the “best tablet in its class for early 2012” and lauded its “fantastic Super AMOLED display” as well as its “exceptional speed.”
But that was before Apple unveiled the third-generation iPad and brought the high-resolution Retina Display to tablets. Soon Samsung will also face competition in the form of quad-core Ice Cream Sandwich tablets from ASUS, Lenovo, Acer and others, and some of those will have screen resolutions approaching Apple’s vaunted 264 pixel per inch count.
So does this 4G LTE tablet still hold up? Can it remain the best tablet in its class for mid 2012? Find out in this Galaxy Tab 7.7 second-look review.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Second Look Review: Still the Best Android Tablet? Discussion
I am looking for worthy WIFI only tablet that is smaller than the iPad and bigger than the Galaxy Note. I like the Galaxy Note as a phone, an ereader and as a browser, but the screen needs to be bigger for serious browsing. I believe that the Galaxy Tab 7.7 size will be the dominant size for future tablets. But, I am living in the present with severely limited choices.
I would like to get a Tab 7.7, but I don't want/need a Verizon subscription and that appears to be the only way to get one, unless I try to get an Asian version, which appears to be more trouble than it's worth.
I know it's a leap frog game between software and hardware and driven by the profit motive, but one would expect the 7.7 Tab to be 1) available as a WIFI only unit, 2) upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich, and 3) get rid of the proprietary charger/connector because it was released in Asia and Australia nearly 6 months ago. It would seem that these simple steps would give it a head start against Apple which, in my opinion only, will have to come out with a tablet near this size this year.
Finally, right now for those of us who like to read outdoors, we need two devices, an e-ink reader for outdoors and a tablet for indoors. I saw pieces about color/e-ink over a year ago, and no color e-ink readers released in the U.S,, only LED e-readers like the Kindle Fire, which is a bust for outdoors reading (unless you find shade.)
I suspect this need for two devices will last for quite a while because the needs are so different. Even with the boost, there is eye strain reading an LED in the sun. So, aside from my e-reader, I would like to get a Tab 7.7, but that doesn't look like a possibility and I am on the prowl for tablet that isn't as big as an iPad.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Second Look Review: Still the Best Android Tablet? Discussion
As much as I think wonderful things about the Galaxy Tab 7.7--it's the tablet I'd own if I could afford one--I think part of its problem competing with the new iPad is that people are simply going to look at them differently because of the screen size.
Take me. If I weren't well aware of the value of Super AMOLED screens, I would only be looking at 10" tablets. The size is definitely the quality of tablets that most people see first, long before they look at specs and screen quality.
