Axiotron and OWC Unveil the ModBook
Axiotron, Inc. and Other World Computing debuted the first ever Mac Tablet computer solution today at Macworld. The Axiotron ModBook is an after-market hardware modification kit for Apple MacBook notebook computers, adding true pen input, a new 13.3" wide screen LCD and an optional Global Positioning System (GPS) in a tough, satin chrome plated magnesium top shell.

Other ModBook features:
- Mac OS X system
- Wacom Penabled hardware
- Inkwell handwriting recognition
- Standard 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo processor
- Optional 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor
- Up to 160GB hard drive
- iSight camera
- CD/DVD combo drive
The Axiotron ModBook utilizes the original MacBook iSight camera, which is slightly tilted downward allowing video conference applications like iChat to better frame the face of the user and the ModBook is the only slate-style Tablet on the market with an internal CD/DVD combo drive, which can be upgraded to a CD/DVD combo burner with up to 8.5GB capacity.“Built for mobile users, artists, students and professionals, the Axiotron ModBook enables its user to draw and write directly on the screen, while the handwriting recognition built into Mac OS X Tiger not only turns hand scribbles into text in every application, but also provides extended control of the system through gesture recognition. If your favored input device is the pen, then this is the Mac tablet solution for you,” said Andreas Haas, president of Axiotron and former management level leader with Apple Computer, Inc.
The Axiotron ModBook is available now for pre-orders in the US and Canada through Other World Computing and will be available in Europe the second half of 2007. Every ModBook solution purchased through OWC includes a 1 year OWC warranty, which can be extended to up to 3 years.
The ModBook's pricing will start at $2,279, but during Macworld and until January 31, OWC is offering the complete ModBook base configuration plus the built-in GPS Module at a special introductory price of $2,199.

Thanks, i saw that link too. That is what the Read More links to, OWC's order page. I was hoping to find some photos of the ModBook from Macworld, up-close or in action.

wow, this looks pretty good. decent specs, good choice with 13.3'' screen and price is not as stupid, although still very expensive.

Can't find any information or mention on the weight of the ModBook on any of these pages yet, not even the Axiotron website.

Three months, fourteen days later, the news of this is about 15 days after my previous reply - the ModBook is weighing in at 5.2 pounds, about the same as the MacBook.
