I'm of two minds about this. More pixels is always nice, but it's not at the top of list of improvements that should be in the iPad 3. I suspect it's mostly going to decrease the overall performance of this tablet while contributing making the display marginally better.
I'd prefer features like USB host, or at least support for more Bluetooth accessories, like a mouse (for when the iPad is being used with a keyboard).
It's not like I'm disappointed by the iPad 3, though. I'm looking forward to 4G LTE support, of course, and the quad-core CPU.

I can pretty much guarantee you that only in Photo or Book reading mode, you will get to use the native resolution. In all other situations, you will be using quad pixel into 1 color mode, where you are basically back to 1024x768.
Also, there was an item on Engadget this morning that supposedly shows the iPad 3 mobo, and it's CPU was marked as "A5X", implying that it's an extension of the A5 featureset and perhaps not a quad core chip...
