Solid State Drive for LC 1600?
Was told a solid state drive would speed up my computer. Anyone install such? What unit would work? Thank you.

Re: Solid State Drive for LC 1600?
It depends somewhat really. A quality SSD can increase speeds for sure, but it depends a bit on what type of drive you have currently, speed increases may be more apparent when upgrading from a 5400 rather than a 7200 rpm drive.
Any SSD designed for laptop drive replacement should work unless your device is one of the oddballs that uses a nonstandard drive.
Newegg can be a great resource, and Kingston offers a SSD replacement kit at a fair price that can help you get your drive copied over and give new use to your old HDD as a portable memory source.
Some of the reviews hint that the kit isn't the speediest of the SSDs, but for the price you should see an increase in speed, and as a bonus, some increase to battery life and blessed silence from the lack of moving parts.

Re: Solid State Drive for LC 1600?
You mean LE1600. It takes a 1.8" 50pin IDE drive (alteast on the one i saw)
There are some on Ebay. Samsung and PhotoFast. The speed increase are really nice. Although your battery life may take a hit.
I have used the samsung ssd on an old Sony notebook with similar specs, what i said above is on that experience.
