Default Surface Pro 2 / Bitlocker => Keyboard Still Required?

I have a Surface Pro 2 on order. While I wait, I'm trying to learn as much as possible about how I'm going to set it up when it arrives. Since this will be a very personal and portable device, I'm interested in running Bitlocker.

I have done some research, and it appears that with the Surface Pro (V1), you need to attach a keyboard in order to enter the Bitlocker password to get your machine to boot.

    Two questions...
    1. Is my understanding about this requirement correct?
    2. If yes to #1, then anyone know if this limitation is still present in the SP2?

    Here's a background thread:
What good is BitLocker without a Keyboard?

If your Bitlocker policy requires the entering a PIN then yes you need a keyboard on the Pro 1, as no one has the Pro 2 yet we can't tell. It is possible that the UEFI Firmware has access to the touch screen but it is still unknown.

I have to comment on this. If the vendors can make a touch friendly bios, then they can add a touch friendly onscreen keyboard to enter a bitlocker pin. Dell recently released a bios update to the Latitude 10 that added this onscreen keyboard on boot and it is fantastic.

    Microsoft? Still waiting......

Thanks! I understand that some people on the forum may have early access to the SP2, and might be able to test it out for us.

Seriously, my understanding is that you're getting a pre-release review unit, correct? Perhaps you could check it out for us and report back to the forum?

I'm supposed to be getting one, but I've not received anything as of yet...
