Anyone else with an x61 with vist care to share what they removed other than the list above?

Also, after doing the clean install I still find, when I look at the task manager, that cpu usage is constantly running between 10% and 55% even though the computer is just sitting there. Anyone else notice this...has anyone removed some of the processes to help?

I think that's Vista indexing. Try turning that off and see what happens.

This is my second Vista computer - I find that the OS is slow for a couple of days until it adjusts/"learns" your habits. Then it gets much speedier. Yesterday I did the clean install on my X61 and today there is no more HDD activity unless I cause it.

    Hey Chaz,

Did you have any issues installing the drivers for Turbo memory when you did your clean install? I am assuming that you are using Vista x64 if you have 4GB of RAM....
I BSOD'd a few times but managed to install it after first installing the Lenovo Intel Matrix Storage driver first.... but I'm not very sure that it's actually active (Anandtech said not to trust the Intel Turbo Memory Console).

im confused here. I downloaded the BSA stuff and it didnt work for me because it said it couldnt find the recovery partition. What did I do wrong here? Also do you have to have a standalone Vista disk to do a clean install or can you do it from the recovery partition somehow?

I never installed any drivers at all actually - I did a factory restore using the restore partition, which wiped my drive and reloaded everything except for the bloatware which I deselected.

Lenovo doesn't ship the X61t with 64-bit so I have the 32-bit Vista. Although I have 4GB of RAM installed it only sees 3062MB. If I had to buy RAM again I'd probably buy 3GB because I thought it was going to see ~3,200MB if I had 4GB installed.

Bear in mind that there is integrated hardware that uses up RAM. It may very well be seeing 3200, but the graphics and sound are taking up the extra space.

When I make a backup of my harddrive using Rescue and Recovery, I place it in an external harddrive. However, when it is finished I can't see the backup images on the harddrive. Is there any way to see them? Or even delete old backups? Thanks in advance

Do you have 'Show All Files' selected?

If you know the name of the file, do a search to locate, just in case it's buried elsewhere.
