Re: Chance to Get a Good Deal on an X201T or Should I Save Some More for an X220T? Urgent Advice Please!
Well, I managed to get hold of an X200T and am waiting for it to arrive. I intended to upgrade the hard drive to an SSD and increase the RAM to it's max plus maybe buy a spare 8 cell battery. However, I've read some conflicting advice and wondered if someone can confirm if I can indeed fit a 2.5" SSD? Also what's the maximum RAM on these and what type should I get?
cheers
Edit: I know earlier in this thread it has been stated that a 2.5"SATA SSD can be fitted but just wanted to check that this is the case? Also if I go for DDR3 what MHZ is it and is it 2 channel (2x4GB)?Last edited by hitman; 02-24-2012 at 03:55 PM.

Yes it'll fit a standard 2.5" SATA HDD/ SSD; though for SSD's you are really a lot better off with one of a Crucial, Intel, or Samsung SSD as the others (especially OCZ) should be avoided because of issues, poor quality, and bad companies that will leave you with a SSD shaped paperweight.
As for the ram, the X200t's only 'officially' supported 4GB, but most everybody has been able to get 8GB to work fine (you will need x64 windows for more than !~3.5GB to be usable though); it is DDR3 type ram and while there are 'faster' types than the 1066Mhz stuff you will see no benefit from it so just get a 8GB 'set' [comes as two matched sticks of 4GB] in the US this is usually $35-40; Crucial, Patriot, and a few others are fine (again, avoid OCZ, and try to avoid off-brand ones as well)
I am curious how much you spent on the machine though...Current: HP 2730p Win 7 & Linux Mint | Toshiba M4 | Motion M1400 renice 120GB SSD | ITRONIX IX-325 | Motion F5 (U7500 update) | Fujitsu P1620 | T4220 w/SXGA+ 160GB Intel X18-M & 1TB HDD in bay | broken TC4400 [for experimentation] | i5 3570K mITX desktop w/GTX460 | ASUS N10j
Gone but not Forgotten: HP Tm2 | HP Slate 500 | HP touchpad 32GB | 6-core desktop

agent nine, once again you give me lots of useful advice so many thanks for that. I'm intending to move my SSD across from my desktop machine to the Lenovo-it's a second-generation Intel X 25 M which is only 80 GB but I think it should be okay with a clean install. I then intend buying a 128 GB crucial SSD for my desktop and I will see how I will manage with those two sizes. I guess I will probably have to buy a larger SSD eventually in place of the 80 GB. I'm going to go for 2 x 4GB of 1333HZ crucial RAM. I will probably hold fire on buying the battery until I see how the old one runs or is it advisable to buy one anyway?
As far as how much I paid, I think I got a good deal or a least a better one than I thought I would at approximately $430, although I haven't received the machine yet, so I'm hoping that it's going to be in good condition and working order! Fingers crossed anyway :-)
