Thanks for your input. I also just tested what you asked for, having pile of paper inbetween the pen and screen, and drawing lines. See attached pic.

For this test, I calibrated the pen holding it perpendicular to the screen, and while drawing this, the pen was perpendicular the whole time. The paper is 50 sheet graph paper that has grids on it, and I used a paper folder as a ruler. It's not 1cm thick, but maybe 6-7mm thick. I still lose a lot of accuracy on the edges when holding the pen perpendicular all times, and crazy when changing the angle as expected.
If I hold the pen at a same angle as when I calibrated the pen, there is still 2-3 mm difference from the tip of my pen and the point on screen which is kind of okay, but what annoys me is that this distance changes as I move my tip to the edges of the screen, especially the bottom and left edge. That's driving me nuts. I can't adjust myself to this thing, and there is no precision drawing using this tablet.
(This was done with default lenovo installation everything)

I tried uninstalling IDS driver or whatever it was for tablet input, then install the Wacom driver from Windows Updates as suggested. It does give 16 point calibration, but still provided similar dissapointing results. Especially with an angled grip which is normal, when I lift my pen a little bit away from the screen near the bottom edge, the pointer moves almost 1 cm up on the screen. When I get the tip close to the screen to actually press something like volume control icon on tray, the dot quickly moves closer to where I want it to be like a sneaky bastard.

    Good luck guys!

I don't know why it's not letting me draw all the way to the bottom end. Might not be getting enough e-field there. I made sure that I completely went over the bottom edge.

Thanks for the videos hp79. I'm in the same boat as you, I'm pretty sure mine is going back. I've done a lot of messing around this past week and I haven't found anything acceptable results. I tried Ubuntu and various other drivers (including removing ISD and using win update/16 pt calibration & doing other custom calibrations). Your videos are making me want to just pick up a used x61.

    Thanks a lot!
I'm under the impression that the distortion in linearity is, well, say less worse on the right side than it is for most others here. Of course this says nothing about how much the cursor is off from the pen tip.

I have a theory that has something to do with the angle of the pen and its distance from the digitizer.

If you have the time it would be great if you could draw me four screens:
On the screen directly, pen straigt and heavily angled
With lots of paper between the pen and screen, pen straight angled heavily
Preferably in full resolution and with a constant angle of the lines.

Even if my guts are wrong, this could help someone else to narrow down the cause.

Sorry but someone else is going to have to carry on the experiments.
UPS picked up mine this morning. Farewell, x220t.

Now I'm thinking of getting a 13inch 2.6 lb sony Z2 for ultra portability for most of the times, and just use my old X61T when I need to take notes.

So I had a play around and on my unit I do not notice any of the wobbling that others have noticed. The edge calibration is slightly off but this is not a major issue for me as Im only using it for writing.
Im waiting for a screen protector and this should arrive Monday, once I have it I will then do some more detailed tests.
As Im using linux it may give you an idea whether this is a driver or hardware issue.

I should note that Im using the outdoor display X220T

Hmm... Wacom said it should be, because the sensor size in LCDs

Just to share. I tried to play with "xsetwacom ... --area ..." command in Ubunty. I think It's a matter of time when I'll find acceptable values for the area. I already found acceptable values for "Axiotron Studio Pen" - 3-mm off on right corners. Also I think Axiotron pen is more accurate than OEM pen

Yeah, unfortunately that doesn't help Windows users Let us know if you get good results though, it would be nice to know if the issues could be solved with just software. It's too late for me though, I already got my RMA and prepaid shipping labels ready

That excuse is pathetic, look at the linearity of the Fujitsu (T901) Digitizer: This is how it should be.

    @randfee
as I said earlier: the problem is Wacom's as it is either physically a design flaw with the digitizer, a issue with the controller board and the new board, or a issue with the computer reading the output from the Wacom digitizer, or very poor shielding/ isolation on the edges (it is NOT a issue with Lenovo as all they do is put some parts together. It could be solvable by a firmware update, or possibly a new version of the driver... but other than those 2 options you would need a replacement of the screen assembly with one that isn't bad if you wanted it to be fixed)
