If you keep them constantly charging it actually wears them down faster, thus the reason why many people's batteries hold no charge after a year or two.
    the added benefit of saving a couple percent of your battery life isn't worth the inconveniences and lack of backup power. if you use your battery to any moderate degree in normal operation, the few cycles that keeping it always plugged in consumes over the life of your computer is insignificant compared to the substantive wear on the battery and of course the artificial obsolescence of the computer itself. a far more productive strategy to keeping the battery in good health is to not let it run too low.

    @chanakin
    That is sorta true, but really only for the much older computers out there. Charging circuits have gotten a lot better, especially so on the business class computers out there, they won't charge the battery one bit if it is at 95-100% battery life... sure there might be a minuscule amount of electricity reaching the batteries when your computer is plugged in, but it is nothing that would harm anything at all, and the convenience leaving the battery in all the time is enormous (if you go to unplug it, or move it around and accidentally unplug it, or even if there is a temporary power outage, the battery is right there as a uninterpretable power supply)

    Now, not all laptops/ Tablet PC's have this, but a lot of them do and I would shocked if the X220t didn't.

    EDIT: primexx beat me to it. I just submitted this after it was sitting in an open tab for half the day, only to find I was beaten to it

    So, I've ordered a screen protector (Photodon MXT - thanks Agent9 & jeepy for the rec) and am going to order a DP-HDMI adaptor next. My barely week old laptop has now been christened. I spilled water on the display and right side of the keyboard today, right before I was due to give a presentation. Not a lot of water, but a good enough splash that it got under some of the keys and under the groove of the screen. Thankfully, it was turned off at the time, and paper towels were enough to soak up the bits of water under the keys. Worked like a charm during the presentation *phew on so many counts!

    Actually chanakin is right that keeping the battery in is usually killing it faster than having it outside. But this has nothing to do with charging behavior - at least in this decade.

    The problem with many laptops is that the battery sits close to the CPU area and thus gets warmed quite a bit.
    LiIon and LiPo batteries start dying the second they are made and the speed of this process is influenced mainly by temperature and their charging state. The warmer and the fuller, the faster they degrade.

    I just got the x220t from CC! Very excited except that I cannot calibrate the pen! It is missing driver (What?). Do I need to update this?

    Nevermind, I figured out the driver update, but the calibration only gives me a 4 point calibration instead of 16.

    yay I'm glad you finally got your tablet! all of the calibrations I've done for multi-touch and the pen are the 4 points. They seem okay but could be better....

    Someone posted on the Lenovo forum that there is a 16pt calibration, but no solution was given on how to bring that up. Oh well.

    Ordered the Photodon MXT too!

    This is for my X61T. If you go to control panel - hardware and sound, there are two places where you can calibrate your screen. The first named 'Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input' which is under Tablet PC Settings, and the second is 'Touch Panel' icon by itself. If I do the first one, it'll give me 16 point calibration. If I do the second one, it'll do four point calibration. The second one was created after I installed multitouch drivers from lenovo. I don't know why they have these redundant menus, but I think they didn't integrate the driver that well with Windows 7.

    CC screwed up my i5 order, shipped a i7 with ultrabay then slap extra $400 or something. I noticed before I received it, so called CC, and the i7 was returned right back to CC. This caused a delay for my i5 X220T order, but I was finally told Monday that my correct order is on its way.

    Default x220t case flex

    I love my x220t. The only thing that scares me is there is considerable scary flex when picking the unit up on the front left hand side, due to the space around the pc card slot. The plastic over it isn't reinforced and it seems like it will one day break. Can any industrial engineers comment on this?
