    Talking Some X60 questions!

Hi, I have some questions about the recently announced x60 tablet. First of all, I've been looking at getting a convertible tablet or a notebook for the past 2/3 months, and so far I've narrowed it down to the asus w3j, dell xps m1210, fujitsu t4215 and the lenovo x60 tablet.

Anyway I prefer ibm because for their reputation and the fact that my uncle has one and he's been very happy with it. sooo on to to the questions...

The lack of optical drive doesn't really bother me that much, cause when I take the thing to school I probably won't do anything that requires using a cd. At home is another story though. I already have an external dvd burner, could I use that for this computer? I dont know why but I have the feeling that I have to buy that docking station to be able to use ibm's drive.

2nd question, this tablet does not have a video card. If i configure with 7200rpm hdd and 2gb of ram, how well will vista run on it? I should add that I'm very impatient, i hate waiting for a computer to perform tasks, i get obstinate so if vista without a graphics card is going to run like xp on a pentium 3, then maybe I should pass on this tablet, which i dont want to do! and yes i would prefer to run it with aero and all the pretty little graphics i want it to run very silky smooth!

anyway thats pretty much it. thanks!
sorry for the ass english, lol its not my first language!

Let me ad some more questions.

Is lenovo going to start shipping worldwide on the given date?

Are there any pricing details for outside USA?

Is it using an active digitizer - Wacom ?

The multitouch screen is Wacom penabled? If yes are there any pressure sensitivity differences with the xga/Sxga screens?

    Thanks a lot in advance..

P.S. I sooooo much want one....

Well I don't consider the x60 to be breaking any news headlines.
It's not using the new Core Duo 2, it doesn't have an optical drive, it's graphics are the standard as found on other similar tablets, it's not cheap and I don't share your thoughts as to the reputation of IBM.

Both Fujitsu & ASUS (in that order) would get my vote in the reputation stakes alone.

As to the x60, yes... it does have wacom support.
There is no difference in pressure sensitivity between the XGA & the SXGA

You might not be able to do everything in Vista, but it is "Vista Ready". Upgrading won't be a problem. As far as Aero glass, well, maybe but it'll probably be a tad slow in certain situations. You could always wait a couple of months and the X60t will be shipping with it installed (I assume).

And yes, the X60t is most definitely Wacom penabled and the same pressure from the pen is used for both XGA and SXGA+.

so, since integrated graphics is out of the question for vista, which tablets besides the toshiba m7/m400 come with a video card?

The M400 doesn't come with a video card, however the Gateway model does, and if you can get your hands on it, the Acer c210 does (though they don't sell it in North America).

so between the x60 and say the t4215, you would choose the latter? I've heard the asus r1f has some hard drive shock issues, and I can be careless sometimes (i dont wanna tell you what my mp3 player has endured), so I dont wanna drop it and render it useless where another one would probably survive the klutz moment. Obviously I would always try to be careful, but you never know...

anyway, none of those have dedicated graphics, which seems to be the norm around the best tablets...so vista without aero should be fast right? i dont game much, and i guess i need a tablet for its functionality and not for vista's nice graphical effects..

X60t should not get a graphic card. a graphic card adds heat, noise and power consumption, and it is quite useless 90% of time.
I have thinkpad T43/60. I tried every single possible way to down clock the cpu and gpu (lower freq, lower voltage) just because it produce too much heat and keeps fan running. i would totally vote to not have the damn graphic card.

Without doubt I would choose the T4215 over the x60.
Amongst others, it has a faster 2.13mHz processor, Core Duo 2, Optical Drive that is modular and can be exchanged for another battery, screen rotation both left/right.... and I could go on.
As to the hard drive shock issues you mention on the ASUS, I've not heard of this myself.
However, don't forget the Fujitsu T4210 comes with a CD for hard drive protection. I would assume this would also apply to the T4215.

All the current new crop of tablets will be able to run Vista happily.
The area that you should ensure though is memory....
For Vista to run at anything approaching satisfactory you need 1GB memory flat..... and if you do any graphical work I personally would increase this to 2GB.

I am trying to find out if the x60t has the edge tracking issue. at this point, it really does look like the x60 doesnt have much an advantage over the t4210.

the t4210 weights the same and gets close to the same battery life as the 8 cell lenovo.
the t4210 can accept full speed processers, not just the gimped low voltage ones.
    t4210 has an optical drive.
fujitsu has likely better support then lenovo
the t4210 can be had for much cheaper ATM.

personally, a few things are keeping me interested in the x60t:
-build quality may be better then the t4210.
    -possibility of better edge tracking
-SXGA+ on the lenovo will be wide angle, t4215's SXGA+ may not be wide angle.

I agree with P8rson overall, don't buy into the hype.
