Re: Updated clean install instructions for X61t
This walkthrough was very helpful to me. Thank you Drtigerlilly.
I had troubles with vLite: it needs a microsoft file called wimgapi.dll. Supposedly the file comes in this 1.3 GB humongous microsoft download called WAIK, but the file was not there - perhaps WAIK has changed. I found a link with a version of this file that did not work for me. Older builds of vLite contain the dll, so you can download from archival sites. The trouble seems to depend on whether you are using 64 or 32-bit Vista.
Now my problem: How do I get my ThinkVantage button working again? How do I get fingerprint recognition again? I wanted to be rid of a lot of bloatware, but I like the Presentation Manager on my old T41, and would like that functionality back.

Re: Updated clean install instructions for X61t
you might need to clone the recovery partition, or is it just the functionality inside windows you want?
The presentation manager & fingerprint reader can be installed via software the drivers are on Lenovo's site, i will post shortly, or they're also on your old hd in the swsetup folder i believe, but you'd only be able to access them if you had an external enclosure, or if you switch it out again & move the files, much easier to redownload them.

The functionality will be fine. Unless there is a reason to do more?

Re: Updated clean install instructions for X61t
It has been a frustrating day. First, the page that Drtigerlilly posted a link to on post #36 has changed in the last few days. Many of the links are no longer associated with downloadable files. I have not managed to get the blue button or several of the Fn keys to work with the files that I did download. I ran the executable files which postioned some files in some locations. Then I ran the positioned files to install the drivers into Vista. Hefffffffy sigh.
I don't know what Fn F3 is supposed to do, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Fn F7 doesn't work, and it is the one I want to work.
Fn F9 {edit} Now works. {/edit}
Fn PgUp does nothing, but I don't see an LED like on my T41.
And, as I say, the blue button does not work in Windows, although it does work before Windows starts.
I have been trying several methods to clone the Lenovo partition, but without success. This is not worth enough to me to buy a SATA enclosure or a commercial cloning program. Short of that, any help?
{edit} Also, how do I enable fingerprint scanning? {/edit}

It looks like they're in the process of moving files.
