Correct, I've selected to Show Hidden Files and I unchecked the box to hide protected operating system files.

Another way to get a clean install that i'm borrowing the concept from forrestsun, would be to run the vista recovery and to stop it after its installed the OS.

Start into safe mode and disable all startup processes.

Oddly mine is not there either. I checked for any unusually large folders (using dir opus) and did not see any. Maybe they have been moved to the hidden partition on newer x61's?

I think i might know why i have it and you're not seeing it, i think i'd done a restore operation and i think maybe that's why i now have the files vs the factory install.

If you can afford the time/effort to try doing the restore and see if it does place the wau files that way.

Still not there, even after doing the restore. Also, the manual links to create a Vista Anytime Upgrade DVD mentioned in the "Clean Install Guide" are also not working, so not sure what to do now...

I'm beginning to get the impression that it was a feature that Lenovo offered in combination w/ MS, and has subsequently removed. There is reference on Lenovo's site of "machines configured with the Windows Anytime Upgrade"
