Angry Thinkpads also affected by Seagate failing HDDs?

Anybody hear about the issues Apple is having with failing Seagate drives?

I have a Lenovo x60t and my Seagate HDD just failed on me a month ago.
It came totally out of the blue, during an airplane ride.

    Seagate Momentus 7200.1 ST910021AS
    100 GB - SATA

I am now concerned about my new replacement HDD (same model).

(PS: Cannot wait to ditch the HDD for a SSD)

You should look at the hard disk as a component that is LIKELY to fail, like all IT PRO's do. Due to its delicate mechanical nature, its the most fragile part of your pc. Get a regular backup / restore regime in place. Once a week using rescue and recovery to an external hard disk should do it. This way, after a hard disk goes kaput you can be up and running again as if nothing had happened in a couple of hours. Definately worth $100 to save the massive headaches that come with data loss.

What firmware version are you running? It will say on your drive somewhere. If it isn't 7.01 according to the article, you won't have problems.

You could always ditch the HDD on ebay and get something else if it really makes you feel nervous. Get a new HDD first, clone your existing one over to the new one, wipe your old one and then put it on ebay!

X61T: 1.6Ghz, 2GB RAM, SXGA+, 200GB 7200RPM HDD, Vista Ultimate, + Other bonuses including: bezel seperation + bezel pushing down unevenly on the screen causing pressure marks, screen that won't rotate open fully, misaligned jog wheel, half working " key, a battery that moves in and out 5mm, constant fan noise with buzzing, loose crackling headphone jack , and the icing on the cake: shoddy sticker placement. All for just $2200! Thanks Lenovo! []FIXED[]
