Its amazing how the X61T is constantly discounted...

I own an X61T. I wouldn't buy another one, or recommend one to someone else no matter what the cost. It is most likely going to have to be RMA'd due to the bezel unsticking problem. X61T's are poorly built and engineered machines and Lenovo knows it. Would you buy a machine you KNEW was going to become faulty, not months or years down the line but (for some users, mine took 3 weeks) in a matter of hours?

X60 has that too! I heard Lenovo have the bezel issue taken care of.

Sorry to hear you are having problems, but I wouldn't let this one issue sour your opinion of the machine. I'd wait a few weeks until the bezel repair process is in full swing and get it resolved. I've only had my X61T of a little over a week, but I'm pretty happy with the function and build of the machine. I do not have the svga screen, so that could be the difference.

Unless you an engineer or are part of the Lenovo chain of command who OK'd such shoddy work, you have nothing to feel sorry about, but thanks. If you are a link in the chain... OMG: mad:

    Bezel unsticking problem
+ a screen that won't rotate open completely in laptop mode
+ various cosmetic issues including shoddy sticker alignment and a jog wheel that won't sit center. How hard is it to stick some stickers down straight?
+ constant fan noise + buzzing
    + premium price tag

= Deeply unhappy user, who will ditch the machine on ebay as soon as the bezel fix comes through. I don't like being insulted by Lenovo, but dont want ditch it now coz all I would be doing is passing the insult onto some other poor soul.

If it was a cut price cheapy $500 dollar laptop, all would be overlooked, but for a $2500 "premium" machine its totally unforgivable.

Nope. Not affiliated with Lenovo, just a customer who has a few of their machines -- T60p (work), T61p (personal "desktop replacement"), X61t (portable personal), T43 (wife's machine). I've had good luck so far, though the T60p has gone back for a LCD repair and the T61p had a planar issue. No build problems/shoddy assembly.

Meaning left to right or up and down? That is odd, either way.

No hope if it's the Microsoft COA sticker or serial number stickers, but if you're talking about the stickers that cover up screw heads, etc, you should be able to move these.

Don't have this one either. That would suck.

    + premium price tag
I got a great deal on mine, considering I paid about half for this as I paid for my loaded T61p. I did get a pretty stripped down config, though.

I'd suggest pointing out the other issues when you send it in for the bezel fix. Maybe they will fix most or all of the issues and the machine will be "good enough". It doesn't sound like it will ever be perfect.

Ok, so you must have gotten a pretty beefy configuration, and I can definitely see your anger. Mine was about $900 less.

I used to have an X41T which was perfect except for the 4200rpm hard disk. Sometimes I would just sit there swivelling the screen during coffee breaks and marvel at the quality of the thing.

You should check out some pre Lenovo Thinkpads, and you will see why I'm so disappointed. Those machines, even the X41T were built to very high standards. I am guessing development was engineering led, with the price being set after everything was developed and tested fully. This has changed with the new wave, X60T onwards where Lenovo have been incharge from the beginnings of the development process. These machines are obviously built to a price, yet Lenovo are still trying to charge premium prices. They are definitely milking the Thinkpad brand for all its worth. Now they are very bad value for money.

I am definately going to get a Fujitsu next. Just have a read through their forums... so many happy users... T4220... similar specs as the X61T but users who only have praise for the machine and Fujitsu's CS. One guy actually complained CS called him too much, trying too hard to solve his problem. LOL. Can you imagine that happening at Lenovo?
